]]>Although many people are worried about the weight of their bags, the dimensions and shape of the bags are also important to consider. While many airlines allow luggage dimensions of up to 22” x 14” x 9” for carry-on luggage, it’s important to check the requirements of the carrier you’re flying with in order to be sure that your bag is suitable.
With most airlines allowing you to bring a “personal item” on board in addition to a carry-on bag, it’s important to understand what is considered to be a personal item for this purpose. This could include laptop bags, handbags, and a beach bag, however, this could vary between airlines so this is good to check beforehand.
While there are several baggage restrictions for your luggage that goes in the hold, you also need to be careful about what you bring in your carry-on luggage. For example, you’re not allowed to bring any liquid containers exceeding 3.4 ounces.

]]>If you’re traveling for longer than a week, it probably makes sense to check a bag. This way, you won’t have to stress about not having all your essential items for the trip. Plus, you’ll have more room to bring back souvenirs.
Oftentimes, bringing your own sports equipment, like skis to a ski trip, will end up being much cheaper than renting equipment upon arrival. Even when you factor in the luggage fee, it’s still a better deal. Plus, you’ll feel more comfortable in your own gear.
One of the benefits of checking your bag is that you limit the hassle you have to go through during security. You also reduce the amount of heavy lifting you have to do during the trip. If you have any health concerns or trouble lifting heavy items, checking a bag might be the right decision for you. After all, nothing is more valuable than your health.

]]>Arriving at the airport a few hours in advance is a useful travel tip most of the time, but when it comes to checking luggage, earlier is not necessarily better. In fact, bags that are placed onto the conveyor belt first are often last to be unloaded when the plane reaches its destination. If you’re hoping for your bags to show up quickly on the carousel, it may be better to check them closer to your departure time. That said, don’t push it too late, or you may miss your flight.
Opting for suitcases in bright colors or patterns can save you time at baggage claim by allowing you to identify your luggage more easily. Colors like navy and black may look nice, but they’re a dime a dozen on most carousels and can be a challenge to differentiate from one another at a distance. Choosing unique luggage also reduces the chances that it’ll accidentally get taken by another passenger.
Use technology to your advantage by attaching Bluetooth trackers such as Apple AirTags to your suitcases before you check them. Heaven forbid they don’t make it to the carousel, you’ll be able to figure out their location and take appropriate action instead of waiting around hoping that they show up.

Before you even begin packing, check the airline’s luggage size requirements. These can vary from airline to airline, so be sure to check the one you’re actually using. The best way to avoid excess fees is to make sure your luggage is smaller and weighs less.
Wear Your Wardrobe
Trust us, heavier items are better on your body than in your bag. Try wearing bulky items like coats, sweaters, and boots. You can also get specific jackets with enough space to load your tablet, phone, and even a change of clothes!

]]>Durability and Protection
People say that you have to develop a hard shell to deal with life’s challenges. It’s much the same concept when it comes to luggage. Hard-shell luggage is typically made from polycarbonate or ABS plastic which holds up better against impact and compression. Not only are fragile items safer in hard luggage, suitcases like this are often water-resistant so you don’t have to worry about damaging electronics or other belongings.
Weight
Airlines are often quite rigid when it comes to weight restrictions, so every pound counts. Soft-sided luggage tends to be lighter than hard, meaning there is room to include a few more items. In addition, soft suitcases often feature compartments where you can stuff in little things.
Storage
This is where soft-shell luggage takes gold. Many soft bags come with collapsible features or can be compressed, making them easier to store in closets or under beds when not in use. The flexibility also makes it less complicated to fit in overhead compartments.

]]>Step #1
You can’t begin the cleaning process until you’ve taken everything out. Unpack the contents of your suitcase, bearing in mind any items that may have fallen from where you placed them, and those that you tucked away in compartments.
Step #2
Once your bag is empty, the true cleaning can begin. Begin by removing any luggage tags and stickers on the outside of your case. Then, using a damp cloth or disinfectant wipe, clean the exterior areas of your bag. Handles, zippers, and wheels are all playgrounds for bacteria thanks to being touched frequently and rolling across various surfaces, so scrub them well.
Step #3
Open the suitcase and vacuum the interior. Get a disinfectant spray or isopropyl alcohol and spray down the inside of your bag. Allow the spray to sit for a few minutes before wiping it off to ensure that any germs that may be lurking are destroyed.
Step #4
Let your luggage breathe. Leave the case open and allow it to air dry fully before closing it up and putting it away.

]]>The little airport is now the first in the United Kingdom to allow travelers to take more than 3 ounces of liquid in their carry-on.
The infamous liquid rule implemented by the Transportation Security Administration applies to items like toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, and lotion. Anything over 3.4 ounces (100 ml) must rather be packed into a checked bag.
Those traveling through Teesside, however, will be allowed fly with a maximum of 2 liters of liquid in their hand luggage.
The move is thanks to a pair of new C3 scanners which use frontline technology to see inside bags. It also means that passengers no longer need to take out laptops or other electronic items to be scanned.
At the end of last year, the UK government announced that new screening technology would be implemented throughout Britain. The deadline has been set for June 2024, with Teesside International Airport clearly on trend.Â

]]>Wheeled suitcases are great if you plan on traveling to modernized destinations. This means you’ll be walking on (mostly) flat, paved surfaces. These types of surfaces are very practical for wheels, so you don’t have to worry about carrying anything. These places are usually cities or towns that have established a focus on modernization.
Although hand-held luggage isn’t as easy as rolling a suitcase along flat pavement, it does come in handy for some destinations. If you plan on visiting any old cities or towns that are lined with cobblestone streets and uneven pavers, this is the time to use that hand-held luggage. It’s also best to use hand-held luggage when you are visiting remote or underdeveloped places.

We’re of the belief that terracotta is underrated as a color, and discovering terracotta suitcases by Canadian travel brand Monos has only further solidified our convictions. They’re dark enough to hide any potential scratches and scuff marks, yet bright enough to stand out in a crowd.
Yes, the same Vera Bradley who made those quilted duffle bags we all had in middle school. She’s still around, and she makes high-quality luggage in a range of fun prints and colors that are easy to spot in a sea of black bags.
July is an Australian brand with a focus on creating high-quality luggage at an affordable price point. Their designed-to-last, beautiful-to-look-at pieces are available in both classic and vibrant colors. We especially love this limited-edition kelly green.
