The weather’s getting colder, but if you like to plan ahead, you might already be thinking about what to do with your vacation once it gets warm out. If you live in the midwest, you’re mostly land-bound…except for Lake Michigan. One of the largest lakes in the country, Lake Michigan nearly qualifies as a sea and has several nice beaches on its coasts. Here are some of the best for you to consider.

Esch Beach: Honor, Michigan

This beautiful lake is a perfect getaway even before the summer months because it provides beautiful wildflowers to look at and wading rather than heavy swimming. That makes it as good of a destination for spring as for summer, and there are several other beaches in the area that you can visit too.

North Avenue Beach: Chicago, Illinois

If you’re looking to pair your tourist trip to Chicago with a beach visit, this is a more “commercial” beach to visit which is close to all the attractions and has lots of businesses and infrastructure surrounding it. It’s also got a lifeguard during the day, so swimming is encouraged.

Dune Beach, Leelanau State Park: Northport, Michigan

The beach at the Leelanau State Park is a great addition to its hiking trails, beautiful dunes, and local lighthouse. It’s got beautiful coastal views and plenty of nature to enjoy.

The Great Lakes region of the United States is sadly overlooked by many a vacation destination. Lake Huron, the second-largest of the Great Lakes, is proof that there is indeed a treasure trove of wonders to be discovered in this under-appreciated area. You’re sure to fall in love with these three Lake Huron spots if you head north to check them out!

Mackinac Island

The crown jewel of Lake Huron is Mackinac Island, a small piece of land stuck between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Michigan’s most popular vacation destination, you’ll find art museums, former military forts, forests, restaurants, shops, and walking trails in a peaceful setting here.

Albert E. Sleeper State Park

If you head to Sleeper State Park on the southern shore of Lake Huron on the right, warm, sunny summer day, you might think you’re at the Atlantic Ocean! This paradise is a great spot for sunbathing on the peaceful beaches and for taking the boat out for a spin.

River Road Scenic Byway

The coolest drive you’ll find in the Lake Huron area is the River Road Scenic Byway, a 23-mile stretch of road in northern Michigan that takes you along the Au Sable River through forested areas until reaching the lake.

Since leaving the country isn’t really an option due to the pandemic, why not explore some national treasures? One we’re sure you’ll love, that will make unbelievably stunning Instagram photos is the Cherry Point Farm & Market in Oceana County, Michigan. The farm has a variety of fruits and vegetables, but the highlight is the lavender field which is grown in a labyrinth pattern that leads guests to the center.

At first glance, it looks like a maze, but rather, it’s a place to meditate and heal and the owner the farm, Barbara Bull, shared with Better Homes & Gardens, “There’s a big difference between a maze and a labyrinth. A maze is a puzzle, it’s a form of entertainment, where a labyrinth is this wonderful, thoughtful, contemplative, meditative walk.”

To complete a walk in the labyrinth it takes about an hour and it’s about two miles long. If you’ve visited the garden before, you may notice that it’s a bit smaller than it used to be and that’s because a polar vortex in 2019 caused a lot of the lavender to die, but within the next few years, the lavender will be back to the way it used to look.

Once you’ve completed the lavender labyrinth, you can move on to the farm’s herb garden which is made of 12 interlocking circles that have dozens of herbs. Before you leave, don’t forget to check out the market which features homemade pies, bread hot out of the oven, jams, muffins, fudge, cookies, and other delicious baked goods.

If you’ve ever dreamed about visiting the beautiful tulip fields in the Netherlands, but you unfortunately haven’t had the chance to travel to the country of windmills and clogs, don’t be sad. Breathtaking tulip fields can be also find in the United States. Here are 3 amazing tulip festivals you must visit.

The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, Oregon

At the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, you can enjoy 40 acres of beautiful tulips. This place is like Heaven on Earth, where you and your family — and even your pet — can spend a fun day jumping in muddy ponds exploring and enjoying the colorful fields.

At this Tulip Festival, you can take a sightseeing tour by train and by a cow train.

You can even enjoy the fields from the air by riding a hot air balloon. The festival is kids friendly, offering a variety of great and fun activities for the entire family. On the weekends, you can visit the Wooden Shoe Maker tent and watch how wooden clogs are made.

Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, Washington State

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival celebrates the awakening of Mother Nature since 1984. These breathtaking tulip fields are located in Washington State, just about 60 miles from Seattle. You can relax and enjoy millions of colorful and remarkable tulips. Make beautiful memories by taking picturesque photographs.

Tulip Time Festival, Michigan

Tulip Time Festival held in Holland, Michigan isn’t a drive-through-the-tulip-fields kind of festival. This festival best represents the Dutch tradition. Beside tulips — which are planted in city parks, at public attractions, and along city streets — there are events and programs for all ages: concerts, carnivals, tulip painting parties, Dutch dances, floral arranging class, Tulip City tours etc.
