On a hill in the Los Feliz neighborhood in LA, you’ll find the Ennis House: a double attraction for both film and architecture buffs. With more than 80 movie appearances, this architectural gem is the last and largest of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “textile block” houses in Los Angeles. So, what do you need to know about it before you visit?

Representing Mayan Revival

Built in 1924, the Ennis House boasts Mayan Revival architecture, standing as a prime example of Wright’s innovative approach. Rising gradually with over 27,000 concrete blocks, it’s a vertical marvel supported by a retaining wall. Wright’s use of concrete in the 1920s, a novel idea for home construction, showcased his belief in its potential for affordable housing.

Unique Design Blend

The concrete blocks, hand-cast from on-site gravel, granite, and sand, feature a unique woven pattern, both inside and out. The Greek key design, a nod to Charles Ennis’s Masonic affiliation, adds another unique touch to this architectural masterpiece.

Hollywood’s Favorite Backdrop

Beyond its architectural significance, the Ennis House is a true Hollywood superstar, gracing the scenes of Mulholland Drive, Rush Hour, and Blade Runner, to name a few. The house’s mysterious allure has made it a canvas for filmmakers and commercials alike.

Is there anything in nature more beautiful than waterfalls? The sound of rushing water, the gentle mist, and the feeling of being surrounded by clean, fresh air all come together to create an experience that feels almost otherworldly. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel to another world to enjoy their benefits. The United States is full of amazing waterfalls just waiting to be explored.  Here are a few lesser-known ones we especially love.

Ruby Falls, Tennessee

Ruby Falls is located deep inside Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. At 145 feet, it’s the tallest underground waterfall open to the public in the entire US. The falls are illuminated with LED lights that make the water appear to glow in different colors. Walking to the falls is a bit of an adventure and involves navigating several narrow passageways, but the reward at the end is well worth it.

Arethusa Falls, New Hampshire

This waterfall is tucked away in the White Mountains and is one of the tallest waterfalls in New Hampshire. The hike to the falls is only about 1.5 miles long, and, although a bit rocky in parts, is easy enough for families with children. We recommend visiting in late spring or early summer when the stream is usually strongest.

Burney Falls, California

Theodore Roosevelt once referred to Burney Falls in Northern California as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” in reaction to its spectacular beauty. The 129-foot waterfall is fed by underground springs and is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a popular spot for hikers and nature lovers alike.

Big cities, big dreams. Some of the top cities in the world are recognized by their skyline of skyscrapers. Sources claim that a building has to reach at least 490 feet (150 meters) to be considered a skyscraper. If the sky’s the limit, these are the cities hoping to reach it.

China

As the hub of most businesses in Asia, it makes sense that China would be filled with high-rise buildings. At last count, there were a whopping 3,090 skyscrapers in the country (many of which are in Hong Kong), placing China in first position.

United States

You just have to look at New York City to get a sense of how many skyscrapers can be found in the United States. The Manhattan skyline is probably best known, but there are actually 880 of these spread throughout the county.

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is home to the tallest building in the world. But while the Burj Khalifa stands high at 2,727 feet, it is not the only skyscraper in Dubai, let alone the UAE. 325 buildings of its kind can be found in the Middle Eastern country which is making a name for itself as a business hub.

If you’re looking for a way to explore the United States that’s both exhilarating and scenic, you can’t go wrong with a classic American road trip. From coast to coast, the US is home to some of the most breathtaking views in the world, and there’s no better way to take it all in than from behind the wheel of your own car. Whether you’re looking to experience the natural beauty of national parks, or soak up the culture of small towns, there’s a road trip out there that’s perfect for you. Grab your best travel buddy and a map and read on to learn more about some of the best road trips in the US.

The Pacific Coast Highway

Stretching over 600 miles from California’s Big Sur to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, this route offers picturesque views of the Pacific Ocean and the rugged coastline. Along your journey, be sure to check out iconic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, or take a pit stop at one of Napa Valley’s world-class wineries.

Route 66

No list of American road trips would be complete without Route 66, the legendary highway stretching over 2,000 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica. More than anything, Route 66 is known for its quirky roadside attractions and nostalgic Americana. Drive through ghost towns, see classic diners and motels, and take in the desert landscapes of the American Southwest.

Lincoln Highway

Lincoln Highway is the oldest highway for automobiles that spans the entire continental United States. It starts in Times Square, NYC and passes through over 700 small towns before coming to an end in San Francisco’s Lincoln Park (or vice versa, depending on which direction you’re headed.) With such a long journey comes countless opportunities to stop and explore, though some notable pit stops include the Lincoln Monument in Illinois and the National Automobile Museum in Nevada.

One of the perks of being a US citizen is that you often don’t require visas to visit countries. The process of getting a visa is both complicated and expensive and can take super long to arrive. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

At present, those with American citizenship can visit the United Kingdom without a visa for a period of 6 months. But a new policy being rolled out by the UK may soon make that a bit trickier.

Great Britain plans to fully digitalize its borders by 2025 and is rolling out an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)  system that will require all non-visa foreign visitors (including those from the United States) to apply online in advance of coming.

“Our number one priority is the security of the UK border and by launching ETAs we can ensure that everyone wishing to travel to the UK has permission to do so in advance of travel and refuse those who pose a threat,” stated the UK’s Home Secretary, Priti Patel.

So what can potential visitors expect?

Travelers will have to provide personal details, passport information, and security information in order to apply, and can expect a response within 48-72 hours. It has not yet been confirmed how much the process will cost.

The ETA is set to go into effect later this year.
