When you’re in a new place, it’s natural to want to spend every waking moment seeing something new. We only have a limited time on our vacations, and sometimes that can make us feel pressured to see and experience absolutely everything we can fit into that time frame. But that’s not always the best way to experience a new place. Here are some reasons planning for downtime is just as important as planning your sightseeing.

Better Frame of Mind

When you’re exhausted from a full day of walking and new sights, it’s hard to actually enjoy all the new stuff you’re seeing or to absorb the new information you’re learning. And what’s the point, really, of visiting a new place if you’re barely experiencing it? Blocking out some time to sit at a cafe or take a nap at your hotel will help you be as rested as you need to be to really enjoy your trip.

No Burnout

Another symptom of exhaustion is fast burnout. If you plan your first couple of days chock-full of activities, you’ll likely feel burnt out by the third or fourth day and may not even feel like going anywhere. Instead of risking losing a full day, choose just a couple of things you want to see each day and plan for downtime in between to keep your energy levels up the whole trip.

Local Culture

Downtime doesn’t always have to mean a nap, it can also mean sitting at a cafe, beach, or park. If you can find out how locals like to relax or where they like to go to blow off steam, you can get a taste of local culture by resting the same way they do.

We saved money for a vacation and finally got to plan the romantic-dream vacation we have been waiting for all year. At this point, we are faced with the most important question of allā€”stay at a B&B or a hotel?

Staying in a B&B is very different from a hotel. First of all, a B&B will in many cases be more private, small, and intimate. In terms of atmosphere, in a B&B you can be in relative isolationā€”compared to a hotel.

At the hotel, on the other hand, you can enjoy unique services offered by the hotelā€”such as room service, breakfast buffet, gym, or spa. In the hotel experience, you can stay right in the middle of the city you are visiting and enjoy high accessibility to attractions, which can be more difficult in a more secluded B&B.

In terms of prices, in many cases, a luxurious B&B will cost more than a hotel at the same level. This is due in part to the fact hotels simply have more rooms. At the hotel, you are also more likely to find vacation “deals” or promotions, which will not be in the case of a B&B vacation.

Vacation is usually the time of year when we pay less attention to healthy eating and tend to deviate from our normal diet routine.

It is, of course, an integral part of the vacationā€”but it can also have negative consequences on our body at the end of the vacation.

So how can you still maintain a healthy diet, and not give up the fun of eating on vacation? Here are 3 effective tips.

Moderation

You want to devour the worldā€”and rightly so. There is no reason to give up on local delicacies, but try to do so in moderation.

Clean Eating

It is not always easy to eat “clean” on a trip. Still, try to keep a good mixture of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and simple proteins in your eating routine on the trip. Pack a bag of delicious, fresh vegetables instead of opening another bag of chips or a bar of chocolate.

Meal Planning

Think about where you will eat at each meal of the day, and choose recommended restaurants for this purpose. Do not wait until the last minute to figure out where to eat, because then you may be very hungry, and the risk of choosing a place that serves fast, junk food increases.

Traveling with friends may seem like a great idea, but if you’ve ever done it before, you know that it can quickly turn ugly. One minute you’re looking at a beautiful sunset over the colorful river houses, enjoying the sound of the wind, and the ripples, and the next minute, your friend asks, “When are we going to the shoe store on the corner?”

Trips with friends can end in fights, but they don’t have to. Here are some tips for traveling together with your friends and remaining friends way after the trip is over.

To begin with, everyone should understand exactly where they are going so that there are no problems or false expectations.Ā For example, if you flew to an old city center where all the hotels are in classic restored buildings with wooden windows and limited public space, but one of your friends fantasized about a hotel with a huge space and a water park, you can avoid this situation altogether by letting them know your plans ahead of time.

Compare physical fitness abilities. Not everyone can or wants to walk eight hours a day, on the streets of a big city or mountain trails. The larger the group, the greater the variability in physical fitness. Make sure you plan stops for adequate rest, preferably off course at points with a local restaurant or cafe.

A dream vacation can turn into a nightmare if you come back home to find burglars have visited while you were away. There are some simple tips you can follow, so you can relax on your vacation. A little preparation can protect your home with no need for expensive alarm systems.

Ask a Good Neighbor

If you get on well with your neighbors, having someone keep an eye on your house can be an excellent deterrent. Ask them to open and close curtains and make sure your packages and mail donā€™t build-up, so it looks like someone is living there.Ā  You can also give them your vacation details so that someone can contact you in case of an emergency.Ā

Use Smart Technology

If you have a Smart home hub, you can easily schedule lights to turn on and off while you are away. Otherwise, there are many plugs that go right into an outlet so again, you can choose the times your lights go on and off. A dark house can be a give away that you are on vacation.

Keep The Front Garden Mowed

If you have a front lawn or driveway, depending on the season, think about employing someone to remove snow or cut the lawn. It will not cost much, and your home will still look lived in, with the added benefit of coming back to a tidy garden. Try and find a neighborhood kid or someone you trust. You do not need to tell them you are going away – just pay them in advance.

Avoid Posting Vacation Details on Social Media

It can be exciting when booking your vacation, but sharing your photos on social media is not a good idea. If you want to share great vacation snaps with friends, create a private group on a social media site. Otherwise, you will be advertising that your house is empty, which is not a great way to keep your home safe.

Lock Up Properly

One of the most common things burglars look for is gaining easy access to your property. Make sure your home is securely locked. Thoroughly check windows, patio doors, and ensure all entrances/exits are double locked properly. If you normally have a spare key squirreled away, now might be a good time to hide it securely in the property. If you are leaving your car at home, you should also hide your car keys.
