When traveling, one of the biggest stress sources is getting lost. While google-mapping your destination may seem faster than looking at a manual map, there are many disadvantages to using your phone to navigate.

Looking at a map of a city – and public transportation systems you may use – is vital to a successful journey. Knowing the general layout of the city allows you to logically plan out your days and also provides a level of confidence.

When you have a general understanding of the layout of the city, not only do you know more about the city, you have a better ability of learning and experiencing those places. By reading the characters names or knowing how to ride the metro you are able to focus more fully on your surroundings and experience. When you are looking at your smartphone you miss architecture or wildlife.
