Have you ever considered a camper van holiday? Van life increasingly appeals to many people, but you can try it out without committing by having a week or two in a camper van. Read on to find out what it’s really like, and to discover the pros and cons of camper van vacations.

Flexibility

Depending on where you’re taking the camper van, it can offer unparalleled flexibility and freedom. Imagine travelling around the coast of Spain, or through the mountains of France—if you spot a place you fancy, you just roll up and spend the night! This is the dream of camper vans, and it is alluring. However, you do need to take the state of the roads, parking availability, and local regulations into account. In some locations, squeezing a campervan down a road is going to result in a decidedly unrelaxing vacation. You also need to know that when you arrive at the destination, there will be ample parking for your huge vehicle and that you are allowed to stay overnight. If all these things are possible, then travelling around in a camper van is undeniably fun.

Food

This will depend on how well your campervan is equipped. Some come with fully functioning kitchens, others barely have a camping stove. Of course, you can plan a route of places to stop off and eat, but you will also have to bring some dry foods and breakfast items with you. Pack snacks, so that you have something to munch on when the driving gets tough.

Hygiene

Modern motorhomes come with showers (some super high-end models even come with a jacuzzi!) Older models may not be so well-equipped, and you will have to stop off at caravan sites with a suite of showers that you can use. Obviously, washing your clothes will also present a challenge, so pack sensibly and be prepared to handwash a few items when you’re on the road.

Campervans can offer fun, freedom, and flexibility, but a great holiday does require some planning and thinking ahead. Check the routes and the roads to ensure your campervan will fit down them, consider parking and local regulations, and pack sensibly to ensure you have enough to eat and wear. With all this in place, it may just be the best holiday you’ve ever had!
