The nations under the great Ottoman Empire, which lasted for centuries, have introduced some Turkish dishes to their cuisine. For example, in the Balkans you can find many meals that include Turkish ingredients. However, some Turkish dishes must be eaten exclusively in this country. These are some of the best meals you have to try:

Simit

Simit is a traditional Turkish yumminess, ring of slightly chewy bread covered with sesame seeds, transported across the city on mobile carts. It is eaten with Turkish tea, or with cheese, tomatoes or cucumber.

Turkish Coffee

If you ever decide to try a real Turkish Coffee, you should have in mind that this coffee is very different from coffee you are used to drinking. It is made in cezve (vessel), slowly on a stove over a very low heat, and it is very strong. Because the coffee isn’t filtered, it leaves a sediment at the bottom, which isn’t meant to be consumed.

Lahmacun

At first sight it could remind you of pizza. Well, you are right. Lahmacun is best known as Turkish pizza. It is a thing dough topped with a mix of delicious topping: spiced minced lamb, peppers, parsley, lemon juice combined with spices such as cayenne pepper, paprika, cumin and cinnamon.

Künefe

Künefe is one the most popular dessert in Turkey. It is a traditional Arab cheese pastry soaked in sweet, sugar based syrup, dressed on top with the grounded pistachio.
