Have you always wanted to see the world, but been held back because of your fear of flying? Fear of flying, aviophobia, affects many people, and it’s been even worse during the pandemic because people are afraid of contracting the virus while traveling. But don’t let your anxiety hold you back, it’s time to conquer your fear once and for all! Here are some ways to get over your fear of flying.

Monitor Your Media Intake

While this seems obvious, avoid airplane disaster movies and reading news coverage of plane crashes. Keep in mind that most flights arrive safely and it’s just those that experience problems that make the news.

Choose Your Seat Wisely

Most airlines allow you to choose your seat when you book your flight. Choose an aisle seat, so you can avoid looking out the window if you’re afraid of heights. Aisle seats are also best if you have claustrophobia, so you have the option of moving around the cabin more easily.

Talk to the Crew

The crews’ job is to make your ride as comfortable as possible. Their priority is to keep you safe and to assist in any health incidents. By meeting the people who have your safety in their hands, it can make the ride seem less scary.

Fly Anyway

The best way to conquer your fear of flying is to just do it anyway. The longer you avoid flying, the worse your fear will get.
