When you decide to go traveling, you never assume you’re going to get sick. Unfortunately, if you’re an adventurous traveler, it might feel inevitable that you will be a victim of food poisoning at some point or another. Since you don’t want to spend your days in bed or in the bathroom, there are a few tips you can follow to lower the chances that you’ll get food poisoning.

Don’t Drink the Tap Water

Even if you’re pretty sure it’s safe to drink, maybe don’t risk it. Drink bottled water to ensure that you have clean, filtered water. Yes, this even means brushing your teeth with bottled water! It might feel a bit ridiculous, but you will be grateful to be healthy for your entire trip!

Eat Fruits with a Peel

This is related to the tap water issue mentioned earlier. If you know the tap water is not safe to drink, keep in mind that people will still wash their fruit with it! If you only eat fruits with a peel, you won’t need to worry about how it was washed because you don’t even eat the outer layer!

Eat Like a Vegetarian

Not everyone will love this advice, but when you realize how often food poisoning comes from meat dishes, you’ll see it’s not such a bad idea. If you really want to test out a local cuisine with meat in it, make sure that it’s a restaurant verified by a lot of people (especially locals!).
