Traveling the world, whether you’re on your own or with others, is an adventure that lasts a lifetime. However, you have the ability to control how much it lasts, based on how much you document your trip. You might think that the photos and videos you take on your phone are enough to make your memories last forever, but we’re about to divulge why you should also keep a journal during your travels.

Use Words, Not Images

Instead of just pointing a camera at a statue, write down how it made you feel. Instead of taking a video of a beautiful landscape, take it all in and write down what it meant to you. When you write down your thoughts, it forces you to dig a little bit deeper. Not only do you learn more about yourself, but you’ll be able to read about it in years to come.

Physically Writing Feels Different

So why not just type your thoughts on your phone? This may sound a bit old school, but writing in a physical journal with a pen or pencil simply feels different than any other kind of writing. Perhaps the fact that it requires more physical energy from us makes it hit home a little bit stronger. Perhaps it’s the fact that you can hold the journal afterward, instead of relying that your notes are in the “cloud” somewhere. Who knows? Why not give it a go and see how it feels?
