Gibraltar is one of the most unique places in Europe. This small piece of land, a British Overseas Territory located on a small piece on land in the southern Iberian Peninsula, is a crossroads of British and Spanish culture and a spot that has lots of one-of-a-kind characteristics. Gibraltar has long been hailed as an interesting tourist destination, and these three unique things found only in Gibraltar can help us to see why.

Wild Monkeys

The only place in Europe where a colony of wild monkeys lives is in Gibraltar, more specifically in the Gibraltar Nature Reserve and on “The Rock.” Originally brought from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, this group of over 300 monkeys is thriving and can easily be seen.

St. Michael’s Cave

Inside of Gibraltar’s emblematic rock is a system of caves that are visited by over a million tourists per year. You will marvel at the limestone formations including stalactites and stalagmites as well as the underground lake of pristine water.

A One-of-a-Kind Airport

Despite being incredibly small, Gibraltar has its own airport which is one of the most unique places to see planes in the world. In fact, the runway of this airport goes directly across a major road and often forces cars to stop and wait for several minutes for planes to taxi.
