Accommodation is one of the biggest travel expenses, and you might be tempted to book the cheapest place you come across to cut costs. This is usually not such a great idea, and it might actually end up losing you money in the long run.

Bad Location

There are exceptions to this rule, but cheap accommodation is often located farther away from popular tourist attractions. All the money you’ve saved by booking it will eventually be spent on additional transportation costs.

Hidden Costs

Cheap accommodation can also come with a long list of hidden costs you haven’t been counting on, so make sure to carefully read descriptions and reviews to make sure you won’t have to pay extra for anything.

No Cancellation

Unless you’re 100% sure nothing could possibly disrupt your trip, it’s a good idea to book accommodation with a flexible cancelation policy. Unfortunately, cheaper accommodation options often have a very strict policy or don’t offer refunds at all.

Overall Experience

Your overall travel experience might suffer if you book the cheapest accommodation on the market. From uncomfortable beds and dirty rooms to poor customer service and limited facilities, there are many issues that could potentially lead to an unpleasant experience.
