Fancy visiting Hong Kong? The government wants you to, too.

Prior to the global pandemic taking over, the Asian city recorded 56 million arrivals in 2019. The last few years have hit the region’s tourism industry hard, however, with visitors still required to undergo mandatory isolation until just a few months ago. As a result, the city’s GDP was 3.5% lower in 2022 compared to 2021.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has now come up with a plan to attract more tourists.

From March 1, 500,000 free airline tickets will be given away in a bid to woo more visitors. The tickets were initially bought to support airlines during the pandemic and are worth around $270 million.

The ticket giveaway, which will be done in phases, is set to last for about 6 months. They will be distributed by Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines, starting with Southeast Asian countries, followed by mainland China and Northeastern Asia. An additional 80,000 tickets have been set aside for Hong Kong residents in the summer.

As part of the campaign, entitled “Hello Hong Kong,” the city will host more than 250 events this year, including the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament, the Hong Kong Marathon, and Art Basel.

A visit to a theme park is a staple of every family trip, especially if the city that you’re visiting happens to be Hong Kong. Amazing amusement parks are scattered all around this Asian metropolis and here are three that deserve a spot on your bucket list.

Hong Kong Disneyland

Disneyland is usually the most popular tourist attraction in each city that has one in store and the one in Hong Kong is no exception. The theme park inspired by our favorite Disney movie has been around since 2005 and it’s home to seven areas, featuring rides, costumed characters, live shows, and more.

Snoopy World

Speaking of amusement parks inspired by animated characters, Snoopy World also falls under this category. Inspired by the beloved Peanuts comics, this attraction is not as elaborate as Disneyland, but it offers a fun experience, with rides, museums, and more.

Ocean Park

If you want to take a break from theme parks inspired by American cartoon characters and explore a theme park that’s authentic to Hong Kong, Ocean Park is the place to go. In addition to classic amusement park rides, you can also find water rides, cable cars, a marine mammal park, and an oceanarium on its premises.

Nighttime escapades are going to be one of the biggest travel trends of 2022, and Hong Kong has quite a few in store. Its skyline looks truly magnificent at night and the best way to witness it in its full glory is to show up for a daily light and sound show A Symphony of Lights.

This amazing spectacle has been illuminating Hong Kong’s skyline for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike since 2004. The show starts every day at 8 p.m., if the weather permits, and it lasts for around 14 minutes, taking spectators on a unique journey that fully captures the spirit of Hong Kong.

A Symphony of Lights is a multi-media show that includes everything from music and laser lights to fireworks. Since its inception, 42 buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbor agreed to participate in this light show, which explores the themes of awakening, energy, heritage, partnership, and celebration through its five phases.

You can observe the Symphony of Lights from several places in Hong Kong, but the Avenue of Stars on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is generally considered the best spot to watch it. For an even more spectacular experience, you can also hop on one of the sightseeing ferries running across Victoria Harbor.

What makes a city great to visit? Is it the food? The culture? The awesome activities? It certainly is all of those things, but it’s also that indefinable feeling of bliss you get when you gaze out into the distance. When you see the skyline of a city, decorated with its array of unique skyscrapers, you feel a certain energy that’s impossible to replicate anywhere else. Here are the cities with the most gorgeous skylines in the world.

Hong Kong, China

The skyscrapers in China are simply some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. With 43 of its buildings standing over 200 meters, it provides a breathtaking view for both tourists and locals. Since four of its buildings are among the 15 tallest in the world, you can understand why it’s incredible to look at from afar.

New York, USA

They don’t call New York City the concrete jungle for nothing. But isn’t that what makes the New York skyline so charming? It holds so much magic and history, both in the real world and endless Hollywood blockbusters. How could you not feel chills on your skin?

Tokyo, Japan

Looking at the Tokyo skyline during the night might be one of the most alluring things on this planet. The myriad of neon lights tells a story of modern technology and aesthetic beauty all at the same time, and its innovative architecture continues to push boundaries as well. Add the distant view of Mount Fuji into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a true wonder.

While Hong Kong may be best known for its luxury and glamour, the cuisine shouldn’t be missed. There are tons of places to eat with more than 12,000 restaurants in the city, and Hong Kong also has the most Michelin-star restaurants in the world. The food is highly influenced by China, but there are also Western influences, making it super unique. When in Hong Kong, make sure you try these five dishes.

Dim Sum

There are a few types of dim sum, a Cantonese steamed dumpling, to try out. We suggest Har Gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) and Cheong Fun (steamed rice rolls or noodle rolls) made with shrimp, beef, or barbequed pork.

Char Siu

Hong Kong is known for its barbeque food and this Cantonese-style barbequed pork marinated with five-spice, rose liqueur, soybean paste, and glazed with honey or syrup, is to die for.

Pineapple Bun

Despite their name, these soft buns topped with crunchy sugar don’t actually have pineapple.

Snake Soup

Snake soup is super popular due to its medicinal benefits and nutritional value. It sounds a bit odd, but it tastes like chicken and mushroom soup.

Roast Goose

This traditional Cantonese specialty is a whole goose roasted with secret ingredients that are then cut into small pieces and eaten with plum sauce.

Money might not be the secret to happiness, but it certainly affects our lives in a myriad of ways. The way we eat, the things we do, and the cities that we live in are all, in some way, affected by money. When there’s a city that’s extremely expensive to live in, only certain lucky individuals are able to actually live there. On that note, here are the most expensive cities to live in in the entire world.

Paris, France

It might be called the city of love, but perhaps that’s why there’s such a high price tag on it. It might be exciting for a tourist to splurge on a wine and cheese outing, but for those who live there, the expenses add up quickly. A city that exudes elegance and decor, it’s become a breeding ground for business opportunities and much higher expenses.

New York City, USA

One of the biggest jokes people like to make about the popular sitcom Friends is that there’s no way Joey could’ve afforded to live in a spacious apartment in the Manhattan East Village as a struggling actor. Yes, it’s just a fictional show, but it’s also a known fact that New York City costs an absolute fortune.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has remained one of the most expensive cities in the world to live for years now. An international hub for businessmen and businesswomen the world over, there’s nothing stopping landlords and restaurant owners from keeping the prices sky-high. It’s become the standard for living over there, and we don’t see it coming down any time soon.

Stacked residential complexes are not a rarity in Hong Kong since it happens to be one of the most densely populated places in the world. One of the very best examples is the apartment complex known as Monster Building, which perfectly captures the spirit of this city.

Built during Hong Kong’s population boom of the 1960s, this building is now home to over 10,000 people who reside in approximately 2,000 apartments. It’s actually composed of five different structures, connected together as a part of a larger E-shaped complex.

Its nickname seems pretty organic when you take the nature of this building into the consideration, but the Monster Building isn’t its official name. It’s originally known as Yick Cheong Building, and you’ll easily find it while roaming the streets of the Quarry Bay district.

Over the years, this building became pretty popular with tourists and photographers thanks to its colorful, symmetrical exterior. Its unique design even served as inspiration for such Hollywood hits as Transformers and Ghost in the Shell.

Despite its enormous popularity, it’s important to stay respectful because this is a residential building, and the locals even had to post signs that forbid taking photos without their permission after receiving too much-unwanted attention.

If we had to pick the top three tourist attractions in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Walk of Fame would certainly make the cut, but it turns out this isn’t the only sidewalk of its kind. Hong Kong is also home to a similar street dedicated to the country’s biggest movie stars, aptly called the Avenue of Stars.

Avenue of Stars is a part of a promenade located in Hong Kong’s area of Tsim Sha Tsui, right along the Victoria Harbor waterfront. It was introduced in 2004 to honor the stars of the Hong Kong film industry, and it now features many handprints and plaques with their names.

At the very entrance to the Avenue of Stars, you’ll be greeted by an enormous replica of the statuette given to winners at the Hong Kong Film Awards. And that’s not the only impressive sculpture on the premises—there’s also a 2.5-meter bronze statue of Bruce Lee located nearby.

Even if you visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame and found it disappointing, you probably won’t feel the same way about the Avenue of Stars. In addition to celebrating Hong Kong’s movie scene, this tourist attraction owes its enormous popularity to the magnificent views of Victoria Harbor it offers to visitors, and you should make sure to observe the Symphony of Lights display from this spot.
