Some of Santiago’s most imposing skyscrapers are a part of the Costanera Center. This business complex is home to some of Santiago’s most notable modern buildings, including a 62-story high-rise Gran Torre Santiago, a six-floor shopping mall, and three more skyscrapers housing hotels and office buildings.
Museum of Memory and Human Rights
If skyscrapers simply aren’t your thing and you want to explore more grounded, low-key examples of contemporary architecture, the Museum of Memory and Human Rights is the place to be. Its stunning glass-and-copper was designed by a group of Brazilian architects from the firm Estudio America.
Santiago Bahá’í Temple
Santiago Bahá’í Temple was designed by Canadian architect Siamak Hariri, and it won many awards over the years. Like all Baháʼí houses of worship, this one is circular and nine-sided. It comes with nine entrances, nine pathways, and nine fountains, while its sides are meant to resemble sails separated by glass, allowing the light to come in.

Its sea shell-like structure is connected with two footbridges to both banks of the Mur, and you can find a café, theater, and playground on its premises.

Unlike the previous two buildings, this one doesn’t house a major tourist attraction, but you should still consider visiting it. The Argos apartment buildings are worth checking out because they’re one of the masterpieces of the famed architect Zaha Hadid and their structural glazing façade will leave you speechless.

Royal Canadian Mint
Royal Canadian Mint explores the history of the coin manufacturing process, but its building is anything but old-fashioned. Its sculptural exterior and mirrored, rose-colored glass walls make it one of Winnipeg’s most striking modern buildings.

Itamaraty Palace
Another modern palace designed by Niemeyer, Itamaraty serves as the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It’s best known for its marble walls, wide arches, and spiral staircase, and it’s one of Brasília’s marvels of modern architecture.
