As popular as it is for tourism, the continent of Europe also has a well-deserved reputation as being not exactly the most inexpensive place on Earth to travel. Cities like Paris, London, and Amsterdam might be fantastic places to visit, but doing things there will also cost you a pretty penny. However, not all of Europe is wallet-squeezingly expensive to visit. Here are the three capital cities in Europe which will cost you the least to visit.

Skopje, North Macedonia

The cheapest capital city to visit in Europe is Skopje, North Macedonia. This charming city of just over 500,000 has a sixth-century fortress, a stunning old town, and an emblematic stone bridge that crosses the Vardar River and serves as one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

Pristina, Kosovo

The capital of the youngest country in Europe is another fantastic budget-friendly option in the Old Continent. Ravaged by war just over 20 years ago, Pristina is now a comfortable, small capital city to visit that offers pieces of Soviet-era, Ottoman, and Bulgarian history for travelers to explore.

Podgorica, Montenegro

On the banks of the Moraca River lies Podgorica, the capital of the small Balkan country of Montenegro. Located between the region’s mountains and the Adriatic Sea, it’s easy to get lost in this charming city’s sights, including a Turkish clock tower and the city’s many impressive churches.

Europe is an absolutely gorgeous continent with so many different things to see and places to visit. But, for that reason, it’s also one of the most touristy continents, especially if you go to the most popular cities like Paris and Rome. So if you prefer a less crowded holiday, you may want to check out one of these three cities.

Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia

A country in Southeast Europe, North Macedonia isn’t very well-known among international tourists, having only gotten its independence in 1991. Locals do love to visit Lake Ohrid, though, because they know about the beauty of its cozy, atmospheric lake and mountain views.

Puglia, Italy

Sure, many, many people like to go to Italy on vacations, but most of those people aren’t visiting Puglia, a city in Italy’s south. But they should, because Puglia’s rocky beaches, rich history, and delicious food make it a great place to go to.

Kakheti, Georgia

Not only are people sleeping on Georgia, but many people don’t even know that it’s a country and not just a U.S. state. But Kakheti has got a lot to offer visitors, with gorgeous mountain scenery, wineries, churches, and castles.

Hotel Senigallia

Skopje’s Hotel Senigallia is impossible to miss, because it’s located in the very heart of the city center, and it looks just like a pirate ship. You don’t have to stay the night to fully enjoy it since there’s also a restaurant on the premises.

. . – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Skopje, Août 2018 🇲🇰 – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – . . #skopje #skopjecity #skopje🇲🇰#skopjeinfo #skopjemacedonia #macedoine #macedonia #skopjeofficial #skopjecitymall #macedonia🇲🇰 #macedonian #europetrip2018 #europetrip #barouderavectoi

Old Bazaar

A trip to Skopje is incomplete without a stroll through its Old Bazaar, where you can buy souvenirs and trinkets from local vendors and take photos of the charming streets with colorful umbrellas.

Millennium Cross

One of the tallest crosses in the world is located on the top of Vodno Mountain, right above the Macedonian capital. In addition to being one of the symbols of Skopje, it’s also one of the best places to get beautiful views of the city.

Matka Canyon

Matka Canyon is located about half an hour outside Skopje, but it’s worth the ride. During your visit, you can check out historic churches and monasteries or Vrelo Cave, take part in several adrenaline-rush activities, or simply sit at one of the restaurants and enjoy the view.

There are great reasons why famous places are famous, but it often happens that really amazing locations remain largely unknown in a global sense – and that makes them all the more mysterious and attractive. In the end, this is a large and beautiful world, and it calls to us to explore it!

One of those rare magical places is found in a small country in the Balkans and is called Ohrid. A real crown jewel of the small country of North Macedonia, Ohrid is one of the most breathtaking places you can visit in Europe.

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByI0qUigZs1/

The city is located right by the Ohrid Lake, which is one of the oldest lakes in Europe and it is protected by UNESCO. It is small but gorgeous, and offers the visitor a close-up of the really unique and special old Macedonian architecture, which gives you an other-worldly feeling as you navigate through the narrow, cobblestoned streets with beautiful medieval-like houses.

Being a cultural center in the Byzantine period, the city is famous for its large number of Orthodox Christian churches that are unlike any other in the world.

You can also get a majestic view of the whole region from the impressive fortress that rises above the old town.

Finally, the local food will definitely leave you coming back for more!
