]]> Airlines suffered a major crisis during the pandemic when international borders were closed, and no one was allowed to travel. In the few months since, carriers have attempted to recoup costs by enticing passengers with more affordable flights — but it seems like that may now be over. 

As we head into summer, prices are expected to rise as quickly as the temperature.

Hopper has been keeping an eye on air travel prices and have worked out that airfare for a domestic flight will cost around $277 for a return trip. The figure is a 5% increase, which is expected to escalate as we reach the warmer season. Expect an average ticket to cost about $350 during the summer. 

“Though prices are expected to remain lower than 2022 levels for late spring and summer, airfare is expected to be higher than pre pandemic levels, as costs remain high and demand continues to outstrip airline capacity,” Hopper stated.

What is causing the price hike, you ask? Well, it’s a solid a combination of high demand, inflation, and lower airline capacity. Talk about a triple threat…

May, for example, is expected to be super expensive, but prices are anticipated to drop somewhat as we fully enter bikini season.

]]> Seattle, Washington may have a reputation for being a rainy city, but the truth is that during summer it hardly rains at all. The weather is typically warm and dry with temperatures averaging in the high 70s, so it’s easy to venture out and explore knowing that you’ll be comfortable. This city has no shortage of fun offerings for tourists and locals to do year round, and good weather brings even more opportunities to get out and have a good time. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite things to do in Seattle come summertime.

Ferry to an Island

Seattle’s location on the Puget Sound is a short ferry ride away from several islands off the coast of Washington that are also worth a visit. Enjoy views of the city against the Olympic mountains on the way to islands like Vashon or Bainbridge without having to worry about being cold on the way. 

Head to the Beach

While beautiful year round, most of the area’s beaches are too cold to enjoy outside the summer months. We definitely recommend taking advantage of the warm weather by heading to the beach when the air is warm and the sun is shining. Our favorite Seattle beaches are Alki Beach and Golden Gardens Park.

Go Berry Picking

Washington is the largest berry producing state in the U.S. and there are plenty of places where tourists and locals can pick their own berries as well. One of our favorite places to pick fruit is Johnson Berry Farm.

You don’t want to have too heavy of luggage, but summers in Europe involve both rain and stifling heat. So what should you bring? To help give you an idea of how to pack light but also be prepared for any weather scenario you might encounter in a European summer, here’s a sample packing list.

Packing List for European Summer Holidays

  • Tops
    • 2 (maximum 3) short-sleeved tops
    • 1 (maximum 2) long-sleeved top
    • 2 tank tops
  • Bottoms
    • 2 (maximum 3) pairs of shorts or skirts
    • 1 (maximum 2) pairs of pants
  • Outerwear
    • 1 thin rain shell
    • 1 thin sweater
  • Undergarments
    • 1 swimsuit
    • 3 pairs of socks
    • 2 (maximum 3) bras
    • 1 outfit to sleep in, ideally that you can also wear as a regular outfit if necessary
    • 10 pairs of underwear – you should never need more than this. If your trip will be longer than 10 days, plan to do laundry while abroad.
  • Shoes
    • 1 pair of comfortable waterproof walking sandals
    • 1 pair of comfortable waterproof closed-toed shoes, like sneakers or boots
  • Accessories
    • Sunglasses
    • A backpack, cross-body bag, or fanny pack

Optionally, if you wear them often, you can bring 1 or 2 dresses.

]]> Positano is a hillside village set on the Amalfi Coast, in the Province of Salerno, in Campania, Italy. It has been a holiday resort since the time of the Roman Empire, and nowadays it is one of the most popular destinations to visit, especially since its popularity skyrocketed thanks to Instagram. Many travelers come here in search of the perfect picture of this small Italian paradise.

The climate of Positano is a mild, Mediterranean climate, with warm winters and long sunny summers, cooled by the fresh sea breeze. The beautiful pebbled beaches are crowded with tourists, and sometimes you can even get lucky enough to see famous artists, actors, and celebrities sunbathing on the Spiaggia Grande, the largest beach in Positano.

However, if you’re not the biggest fan of crowds, there are plenty of other beaches to choose from, such as Fornillo, La Porta, Fiumicello, Arienzo, San Pietro, Laurito, and Remmese. There are many hidden beaches accessible only by boat, which you can easily rent at any beach and do your own exploring.

The best way to truly experience the town of Positano is by foot. The winding stone streets, narrow roads and steep flights of steps are sure to take you on an authentic adventure. At every corner, you will find small Italian coffee shops, restaurants, and local stores selling unique souvenirs and handmade items. You can spend hours walking and browsing, but make sure to visit Positano’s most famous sights: the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the local Museo Archeologico Romano, where you can learn all about Positano’s Roman history and architecture.

The Amalfi coast offers many activities for fans of hiking as well. The “Path of the Gods” is a centuries-old trail with incredible panoramic views and breath-taking landscapes, the most popular being the stretch between Bomerano and Nocelle. From Positano, you can also take a ferry to the nearby villages of Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Castiglione, and Maiori lie, and you can even hop on the ferry from Naples that will take you straight to the island of Sardinia.

]]> Airlines suffered a major crisis during the pandemic when international borders were closed, and no one was allowed to travel. In the few months since, carriers have attempted to recoup costs by enticing passengers with more affordable flights — but it seems like that may now be over. 

As we head into summer, prices are expected to rise as quickly as the temperature.

Hopper has been keeping an eye on air travel prices and have worked out that airfare for a domestic flight will cost around $277 for a return trip. The figure is a 5% increase, which is expected to escalate as we reach the warmer season. Expect an average ticket to cost about $350 during the summer. 

“Though prices are expected to remain lower than 2022 levels for late spring and summer, airfare is expected to be higher than pre pandemic levels, as costs remain high and demand continues to outstrip airline capacity,” Hopper stated.

What is causing the price hike, you ask? Well, it’s a solid a combination of high demand, inflation, and lower airline capacity. Talk about a triple threat…

May, for example, is expected to be super expensive, but prices are anticipated to drop somewhat as we fully enter bikini season.

]]> Seattle, Washington may have a reputation for being a rainy city, but the truth is that during summer it hardly rains at all. The weather is typically warm and dry with temperatures averaging in the high 70s, so it’s easy to venture out and explore knowing that you’ll be comfortable. This city has no shortage of fun offerings for tourists and locals to do year round, and good weather brings even more opportunities to get out and have a good time. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite things to do in Seattle come summertime.

Ferry to an Island

Seattle’s location on the Puget Sound is a short ferry ride away from several islands off the coast of Washington that are also worth a visit. Enjoy views of the city against the Olympic mountains on the way to islands like Vashon or Bainbridge without having to worry about being cold on the way. 

Head to the Beach

While beautiful year round, most of the area’s beaches are too cold to enjoy outside the summer months. We definitely recommend taking advantage of the warm weather by heading to the beach when the air is warm and the sun is shining. Our favorite Seattle beaches are Alki Beach and Golden Gardens Park.

Go Berry Picking

Washington is the largest berry producing state in the U.S. and there are plenty of places where tourists and locals can pick their own berries as well. One of our favorite places to pick fruit is Johnson Berry Farm.

You don’t want to have too heavy of luggage, but summers in Europe involve both rain and stifling heat. So what should you bring? To help give you an idea of how to pack light but also be prepared for any weather scenario you might encounter in a European summer, here’s a sample packing list.

Packing List for European Summer Holidays

  • Tops
    • 2 (maximum 3) short-sleeved tops
    • 1 (maximum 2) long-sleeved top
    • 2 tank tops
  • Bottoms
    • 2 (maximum 3) pairs of shorts or skirts
    • 1 (maximum 2) pairs of pants
  • Outerwear
    • 1 thin rain shell
    • 1 thin sweater
  • Undergarments
    • 1 swimsuit
    • 3 pairs of socks
    • 2 (maximum 3) bras
    • 1 outfit to sleep in, ideally that you can also wear as a regular outfit if necessary
    • 10 pairs of underwear – you should never need more than this. If your trip will be longer than 10 days, plan to do laundry while abroad.
  • Shoes
    • 1 pair of comfortable waterproof walking sandals
    • 1 pair of comfortable waterproof closed-toed shoes, like sneakers or boots
  • Accessories
    • Sunglasses
    • A backpack, cross-body bag, or fanny pack

Optionally, if you wear them often, you can bring 1 or 2 dresses.

]]> Positano is a hillside village set on the Amalfi Coast, in the Province of Salerno, in Campania, Italy. It has been a holiday resort since the time of the Roman Empire, and nowadays it is one of the most popular destinations to visit, especially since its popularity skyrocketed thanks to Instagram. Many travelers come here in search of the perfect picture of this small Italian paradise.

The climate of Positano is a mild, Mediterranean climate, with warm winters and long sunny summers, cooled by the fresh sea breeze. The beautiful pebbled beaches are crowded with tourists, and sometimes you can even get lucky enough to see famous artists, actors, and celebrities sunbathing on the Spiaggia Grande, the largest beach in Positano.

However, if you’re not the biggest fan of crowds, there are plenty of other beaches to choose from, such as Fornillo, La Porta, Fiumicello, Arienzo, San Pietro, Laurito, and Remmese. There are many hidden beaches accessible only by boat, which you can easily rent at any beach and do your own exploring.

The best way to truly experience the town of Positano is by foot. The winding stone streets, narrow roads and steep flights of steps are sure to take you on an authentic adventure. At every corner, you will find small Italian coffee shops, restaurants, and local stores selling unique souvenirs and handmade items. You can spend hours walking and browsing, but make sure to visit Positano’s most famous sights: the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the local Museo Archeologico Romano, where you can learn all about Positano’s Roman history and architecture.

The Amalfi coast offers many activities for fans of hiking as well. The “Path of the Gods” is a centuries-old trail with incredible panoramic views and breath-taking landscapes, the most popular being the stretch between Bomerano and Nocelle. From Positano, you can also take a ferry to the nearby villages of Praiano, Conca dei Marini, Castiglione, and Maiori lie, and you can even hop on the ferry from Naples that will take you straight to the island of Sardinia.
