]]>That’s the lesson being taught by a pair of best friends who are not letting age stand in their way of seeing the world. On the contrary, their latest adventure was prompted by both becoming octogenarians.
After their husbands both passed away, Ellie Hamby and Sandra Hazelip began traveling together. Their 20-year friendship has included numerous adventures and they are not showing any signs of slowing down.
In fact, the besties have just completed an 80-day trip around the globe.
“‘Ellie, why don’t we take a trip around the world in 80 days when we are 80?’” Hazelip recalled asking. After a few seconds of shock, Hamby’s response was, ‘Why not?!’”
COVID-19 forced the friends to delay their trip until they were 81, but they still checked off 80 countries in 3 almost months. Their experiences have involved riding camels in Egypt, taking a dogsled ride in the Arctic Circle, throwing coins into Rome’s Trevi Fountain, and seeing the Northern Lights in Finland. Their favorite destination, however, was Bali.
Having achieved their goal, Hazelip has some words of wisdom for aspiring travelers: “My advice is, get up out of that easy chair, step out of your comfort zone, make some plans, and live. Your age is only a number.”

]]>For some people, the more they realize the beauty of travel, the more upset they get because of all the other places they aren’t seeing. They start to feel like they need to see every little corner of the face of the earth because otherwise, they won’t have experienced life to the fullest. They see friends’ Instagrams showing countries they’ve been to and they get jealous. But this completely misses the point.
The places we visit are incredible, but it’s the experiences we have that make them meaningful. It’s the people we go with on these trips. It’s the people we meet. In other words, it’s not so much about traveling, but how we travel, that means something. If we’re constantly worried about the places we’re not seeing, we won’t be able to appreciate the places we are seeing. So just chill out and enjoy each destination as it comes!

]]>It’s true: some travel blogs are incredibly successful and change the blogger’s entire life, allowing them to quit their job and travel full-time. But this only happens to the very lucky few, with most travel blogs having much less success. So don’t expect your new blog to be a runaway success, and certainly not right off the bat. You should only create it if you really love it, money or not.
While blogs used to own the internet, today social media is king. Blogs still have their place, but if you want anybody to find your website, you need to be promoting it on social media, too.
There are thousands of travel blogs out there, so if you want people to read yours, it needs to be unique. The good news is that it already is because it’s yours, nobody else’s, and you are a unique individual. So go ahead and show your personality. Lean into what makes you you and different.

]]>Perhaps one of the biggest reasons traveling is good for your mind is that it allows you to escape your mundane life. Listen, there isn’t anything wrong with a 9-to-5 job—but breaks are certainly important. Sometimes, all your mind really needs is a break from the same old atmosphere that surrounds you.
When you travel, more often than not you’ll be spending a great deal of time outdoors. We’re talking exotic trails, breathtaking hikes, and fresh nature. That kind of atmosphere is literally medicine for a mind that spends most of the time locked in an office or apartment.
When we’re in a new environment, it allows our mind to adopt new perspectives. Weirdly enough, it’s when we take a break from our problems that we sometimes manage to find solutions to them.

These “tags” on photos, used by adding a word or phrase after the # sign, are a tool that you can use to your heart’s content, adding as many as you like to your posts which are relevant to your profile or the pictures you share.
If you’re a travel blogger, use relevant hashtags such as #travelblogger or #travelblog to make users who are interested in seeing posts from users like you drawn to your feed.
Also, if you are visiting a certain place or photographing a certain type of “scene,” using hashtags that are commonly used with pictures of this place or thing are another fantastic way to have other users discover your profile as they look for posts related to this hashtag.
Learn to use hashtags, and you will find your follower base and readership grow exponentially. It’s a great tool to be an expert in!

]]>A few days may be a short amount of time, but you can get so much done in that time. With strategic planning, there’s no reason why one can’t see most of a city’s best landmarks in that timeframe. Heck, there are even tour busses specifically designed for the purpose of navigating the entire city in one day.
Sure, you can see all the important areas, but did you actually experience what the city is all about? You might’ve walked to the top of the Eiffel Tower, but did you internalize what it truly means to be an average citizen of Paris? There are some intangible things in a city that one can only learn if they’ve lived there for long periods of time.
On the surface, you can certainly learn everything there is to know about a city in a few days. However, our belief is that this is only one piece of the puzzle. To truly understand what drives the heartbeat of a town, you need to live there for an extended period of time.

]]>If you’re in an airport, it’s because you’re about to fly somewhere (unless you’re dropping someone off or picking them up). If this is a trip to be excited about, there’s no reason the airport shouldn’t feel exciting as well. The way we see it, being in an airport before a fun trip is like an incubator of wonderful anticipation.
Once you’ve gotten past all the lines and security checkpoints, you can finally relax at your gate. As you hang out waiting for your plane to board, there’s a certain energy present that doesn’t occur often. It’s an energy filled with reflection, as you think about the life events that brought you to this trip in the first place—and the future places you may end up.
Finally, airports are awesome because they’re basically like massive shopping malls. Granted, some airports are much better than others, but many of them have some truly amazing things to offer. From fancy restaurants to clothing stores, what could be better?
