It’s only been about a year and a half since Agatha Catchrain decided to give solo travel a shot – and this is already her full-time career. She became a true social media sensation after she started sharing her travel tips online, and she’s dedicated to helping other people explore the world on a budget and get paid along the way.

Catchrain’s adventure started in 2022, when she decided to quit her job during a work trip to Mexico and travel the world full-time, all on her own. Before embarking on this adventure, she had over ten years of work experience as a marketing specialist, and she managed to climb the corporate ladder without a higher degree.

After some time, Catchrain realized that having a successful career wasn’t as fulfilling as she thought it would be, and decided to start living her best life.

“I’ve always dreamed of traveling the world, but I always put it off for later. I thought I needed to have more money, more time, or even be married before I could start my adventure. But then I realized that I was just making excuses,” she explains in her e-book How To Get Paid to Travel.

Since embarking on this adventure, Catchrain attracted over 250,000 followers on Instagram and 60,000 more on TikTok and launched master classes in an attempt to teach other people how to earn money while traveling.

The beauty of Instagram is that you can be anything you want, and if people can follow you if they enjoy your content. For Tara, who goes by the name “Tara Milk Tea” on her Instagram page, she’s managing to balance fashion, food, and travel in one neat package. Judging by her one million plus followers, she’s doing a pretty darn good job of it.

Visual Masterpieces

Let’s start with the travel. Tara is exceptional at finding the most breathtaking views, and capturing them with brilliance and precision. It doesn’t hurt that she places herself in these photos as well, and that she knows how to strike an engaging pose. To top of it off, she usually wears a stunning outfit that completes the full visual effect. Simply put, she knows how to create beautiful content, and her fans are loving every second of it.

A Great Writer

If you’re someone who loves following travel bloggers, it’s hard to imagine you not wanting to follow Tara’s account. Because while we acknowledged her ability to create visually engaging photos, she also has a real way with words. Tara is always sharing cute little snippets about her travels, whether it be a special destination that she visited or a tasty delicacy that she ate. She’s really the full package, and you should check out her full Instagram page!

While international travel isn’t in the cards for us in 2020, it doesn’t stop us from dreaming about greener pastures. You can’t blame us for being optimistic, we do run a travel blog after all. And if these past months had taught us anything its that to never take what we have for granted.

It has also taught us compassion for our fellow travel bloggers (hang in there!). This week we’d like to introduce you to travel bloggers Victoria and Steve from Bridges and Balloons. Fans of road trips, cakes, cabins, and bookshops their website and accompanying Instagram page offer travel recommendations and unique itineraries, filled with beautifully designed places to stay and ways to experience life like a local.

Rather than treating your vacation as a long to-do list filled with “must-sees”, Bridges and Balloons offers a way of travel that stresses the importance of soaking up the atmosphere and experiencing local life. “We favor independents over chains, and while we’re vegetarian, we tend to eat in restaurants that are known to be good for all food rather than just veggie stuff,” writes Victoria. “We love places that have a story behind them, and we prioritise the experience over the price, featuring both budget and luxury styles.”

Having traveled around the world (sometimes regularly, sometimes full-time) for the past two decades, Victoria is here top show you the ropes. “I’m that friend you always ask for travel tips,” she writes, “who you can rely on to have done all the research and sought out the places that make a trip unique. I’m an 100% travel geek – and a certified cake and book fiend.”

Today is what has been dubbed ‘Super Saturday’ in the UK. Our lockdown has been radically eased and now pubs, restaurants, cafes and hotels are all open, social distancing has been reduced to 1m (although you’re meant to wear a mask at less than 2m), and from next week our borders are open to 59 countries. While I’d love to get back to “normal” and for people’s livelihoods to be restored, this feels like too much all at once and too soon. It seems all responsibility has now been placed on the public (most likely so we can be blamed for any repercussions that come our way). And that’s a worrying situation to be in. Tensions and frustrations are running high, and scenes like those from the beaches last week and the rave that happened on my doorstep don’t inspire confidence in our resolve. Especially when alcohol is added to the mix. So this is a plea to everyone who is venturing out: please be safe and sensible. No-one wants a second wave and to be thrown back into lockdown. So let’s do our best to stop that from happening. And while you might not consider yourself at risk, remember to spare a thought for those who are. And tell me: how are you all feeling about ‘Super Saturday’? Will you be heading to the pub or a local restaurant? Or staying put at home? What do you think should have happened at this stage? Would love to hear your thoughts.

We all look forward to the weekends—some time off our busy schedules when we can relax and enjoy ourselves. But what if you could stop living for the weekends and actually start living NOW? Travel blogger Michelle Halpern wants to get this uplifting message across, inspiring her many followers online to live like it’s the weekend.

“My goal is to show you that if you want to make travel happen in your life, it’s truly possible,” writes Halpern on her website. “I’m here to guide you along the way, whether you’re struggling with money to pay for travel, feel held back by the schedule of a 9-to-5, or simply get stressed just at the thought of planning a trip in the first place, I’m here for you girl. YOU GOT THIS.”

Halpern puts her money where her mouth is, providing through her blog not only valuable and tangible information that you can use throughout your adventures, but also inspiring us to dream a little bigger and live a bit more fully. And with this past year being especially hard for tourism, Halpern also acknowledges the importance of treating yourself with kindness and copassion.

“I was supposed to be leaving this morning for a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur, but in true 2020 style it was cancelled yesterday less than 24 hours before our departure,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. “If this year has taught me anything, it’s to roll with the punches. There will be another time and place for this trip. I know so many of you have had to cancel things this year: trips, weddings, festival tickets, birthday parties, honeymoons. The list goes on. Know that you’re not alone in grieving the things you’ve had to cancel.”

Having visited more than 40 countries in 6 continents, her experiences and insight, both online and offline, are worth following.

I stumbled on an old journal earlier this week that had entries from back in 2012, right around the time I was deciding to close the chapter on my NYC life and move out to California. Reading through all of the nervous uncertainty with the knowing now of how everything has turned out was cathartic to say the least. Then as I flipped through the pages, there were a few more entries from my early days in LA circa 2013. Lists of things I wanted to accomplish and tick off the bucket list so to speak. There was a list of "places I need to see before I die": Thailand, Bali, Fiji, Morocco, Positano, Australia and Iceland…all but one of which I've since explored. There were things like "start a blog" – check. "Travel overseas by myself" – check. And then there was the line that really got me: "I secretly wish I was a photographer." Without seeing it coming, I burst into tears. Not because it made me sad, but because in that moment I felt more pride than I have in a long time. I felt so much love for that girl that was trying to find her place in the world in her late 20s and so much love for the 33 year old woman I've become, even if I don't give myself enough credit most of the time. I know you probably don't give yourself enough credit either. This year has seemed like a step back in progress for many of us, but I urge you to take a minute to reflect. Think about your 2012 self. Your 2014 self. Your 2017 self. What were your hopes and dreams then and where are you now? Progress is happening, I promise. Sometimes we just need a little perspective to see it clearly 💛

You might think that traveling with your significant other is stressful and a lot of work, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Just let Chanel and Stevo, the curators of the fantastic @howfarfromhome account on Instagram, be the ones to prove it!

This South African couple left behind their corporate jobs a few years ago and now work as creative directors that put together multimedia content for companies all around the world.

These two go around the world with their cameras in order to capture the best shots of all of their scenic destinations. Despite the stress of traveling with their significant other, these two definitely have a great time and check out an incredible number of fascinating places.

It’s always a surprise to find out where this globe-trotting couple has ended up when checking out the “stories” tab on their account. One of my favorite recent trips that they’ve taken was a journey to Poland, where they sampled all kinds of tasty dishes.

Be sure to give this inspiring couple a follow, and start booking a trip with your partner as soon as possible!
