If you’re looking to get away for a weekend before winter is here and Vermont sounds good to you, here are some things we recommend including in your trip.

Go to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory

We said it before and we’ll say it again. It’s not a trip to Vermont without a visit to this iconic ice cream maker regardless of what time of year you visit. Year-round, you can stop by the factory Scoop Shop for a cone or dish of your favorite flavor, but only in fall can you enjoy it alongside a backdrop of spectacular changing leaves.

The Vermont Country Store

This family-owned shop has been around since 1946 and offers a wide variety of high-quality gifts and souvenirs including food, home goods, and seasonal decor. Be sure to check out the bakery and pick up some locally-made cheese and maple syrup.

Walk Around Burlington

Burlington is a small city east of Lake Champlain, and it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon strolling around before it gets too cold. Its Church Street Marketplace is filled with shops and restaurants and even hosts an annual Christmas market during the holidays!

]]> Autumn is an incredibly busy time of year. In September, most of us are returning to our school and work routines, and by November we’ve already switched over to holiday-mode. It’s hard to imagine adding any more chaos to the mix, but hear us out: fall is one of the best times to travel in the US. Popular tourist spots are less crowded than they were a few months prior, the weather is more comfortable once the heat has broken, and don’t even get us started on the foliage. Here are some of our favorite spots to take a quick fall weekend getaway.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is beautiful any time of year, but we find it to be a much more pleasant destination when the summer heat has gone. Special fall tours of the city are held throughout October, and we especially love to visit the farmer’s market, which runs until the end of November.

Woodstock, Vermont

We’d be remiss not to mention a foliage-centered spot, and Woodstock is definitely one of the best. The town is also home to several orchards for picking your own apples and the famous Billing’s Farm, where you can play pumpkin bowling.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe has some of the best fall festivals in the country. The weather is ideal throughout the month of October, and the Harvest Festival, International Balloon Fiesta, and Wine and Chile Fiesta are all worth the trip.

]]> We’re of the opinion that there’s no finer place to spend some time in the fall than New England, and within New England, no finer place than Vermont. This state is home to some of the country’s most beautiful foliage, picturesque bike paths, and best of all, the original Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory. It may be getting colder, but who says we can’t still enjoy a cone of Chunky Monkey? If you’re looking to get away for a weekend before winter is here and Vermont sounds good to you, here are some things we recommend including in your trip.

Go to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory

We said it before and we’ll say it again. It’s not a trip to Vermont without a visit to this iconic ice cream maker regardless of what time of year you visit. Year-round, you can stop by the factory Scoop Shop for a cone or dish of your favorite flavor, but only in fall can you enjoy it alongside a backdrop of spectacular changing leaves.

The Vermont Country Store

This family-owned shop has been around since 1946 and offers a wide variety of high-quality gifts and souvenirs including food, home goods, and seasonal decor. Be sure to check out the bakery and pick up some locally-made cheese and maple syrup.

Walk Around Burlington

Burlington is a small city east of Lake Champlain, and it’s the perfect place to spend an afternoon strolling around before it gets too cold. Its Church Street Marketplace is filled with shops and restaurants and even hosts an annual Christmas market during the holidays!

]]> Autumn is an incredibly busy time of year. In September, most of us are returning to our school and work routines, and by November we’ve already switched over to holiday-mode. It’s hard to imagine adding any more chaos to the mix, but hear us out: fall is one of the best times to travel in the US. Popular tourist spots are less crowded than they were a few months prior, the weather is more comfortable once the heat has broken, and don’t even get us started on the foliage. Here are some of our favorite spots to take a quick fall weekend getaway.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is beautiful any time of year, but we find it to be a much more pleasant destination when the summer heat has gone. Special fall tours of the city are held throughout October, and we especially love to visit the farmer’s market, which runs until the end of November.

Woodstock, Vermont

We’d be remiss not to mention a foliage-centered spot, and Woodstock is definitely one of the best. The town is also home to several orchards for picking your own apples and the famous Billing’s Farm, where you can play pumpkin bowling.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe has some of the best fall festivals in the country. The weather is ideal throughout the month of October, and the Harvest Festival, International Balloon Fiesta, and Wine and Chile Fiesta are all worth the trip.

Maine’s Coastal Route 1, which winds along the Atlantic Ocean through old-growth deciduous forests, is spectacular at any time of year. In mid-October, however, during peak fall colors, its trees turn the coastline into a beautiful mix of ocean and the bright warm colors of the fall leaves.
