National parks exist in countries all around the world and are often some of the best places to visit when exploring an area. These designated regions are often some of the most beautiful places and are ideal for hiking or just taking in the scenery. There are amazing national parks across Spain, and here are three that should be added to everyone’s bucket list.

Picos de Europa National Park

This national park is located in the north of Spain and features stunning scenery. It was the first national park to be created in Spain, and the jagged, rocky mountains are a popular destination for many. It has exciting wildlife including bears and wolves, and beautiful glacial lakes.

Sierra Nevada National Park

Located in Andalucia in the south of Spain, this is the largest national park in the country. A popular location for skiers, this area is also great for hiking and bird-watching. Despite being so southern, the high altitude of these mountains means they see lots of snow in winter, and are a spectacular sight to see.

Doñana National Park

Also located in southerly Andalucia, this national park offers very different scenery and experiences. Based right on the coast, it has incredible marshes and wetlands which are home to a huge range of wildlife.

As the summer gradually draws to an end, the thought of vacations and travel may start to seem less appealing. However, for those not bound by academic term times or other commitments, fall can be the best time of year for a trip. It’s often less crowded, has a more favorable temperature, and can be much cheaper. Here are some destinations in Europe which would make for an ideal fall trip away.

Traveling is incredibly exciting and opens so many doors for self-growth and learning opportunities. When traveling to different countries, getting to see the landscapes, cities, and cuisine are all super exciting, but perhaps getting to meet local people and learn about new cultures is one of the best parts. It’s a good idea to read up on local culture and customs before heading somewhere to ensure you are respectful and don’t accidentally offend anyone. Thailand is a very popular destination for travelers, so here are some important cultural points to keep in mind while there.

Politeness and Respect Are Important

This is true of many cultures around the world, but some may be more willing to let it slip at times than others. In Thailand, these concepts are very important, especially for elders, so it’s essential to always keep this in mind.

Greetings Matter

This ties in with the above point, as the common choice for greeting people, is a sign of respect. The hands are placed together in front of the body, followed by a bow. The higher the hands and the deeper the bow, the more respect is being shown.

Strong Emotions Aren’t Common in Public

It is very unusual in Thailand to show strong emotions in public, particularly negative ones. To demonstrate strong negative emotions in public may be associated with the concept of losing face, and can be seen as shameful. It’s believed that these matters are better dealt with in private.

When planning a trip somewhere there are so many things to think about. Deciding on destination, accommodation, and transport is just the start. Once these things have been chosen the joy of packing might be next on the list. Working out what to bring with you is one thing, but deciding on the bag type to bring with you is also an important choice. Common options are a suitcase or a backpack, so here are some pros and cons of each to help you decide.

Suitcases Can be Wheeled Along

There’s nothing worse than getting off a long flight only to have to swing your backpack on to lug around. When you have a lot to carry, having it all resting on your shoulders is not fun. Being able to pull this weight along on wheels instead can be ideal.

Backpacks Are More Concise

As nice as it is to not have to carry the weight of your luggage, suitcases can be challenging in crowded places, on uneven ground, or when there are lots of steps. Having your luggage on your back means you don’t have to think about it wherever you go.

Suitcases Are More Practical for Accessing the Contents

It’s great to be able to unzip a suitcase and pull it open to access the inside. Backpacks can be much more awkward to rummage through.

Backpacks Can be Squashed Down

Whether you’re on a flight with overhead storage or on a busy coach, suitcases can be a nightmare to fit into small gaps as they are sturdy and rigid. Backpacks can be stuffed into gaps much more easily.

The Ruta Del Cares is a super popular hiking trail in northern Spain. At one end is the tiny village of Poncebos in Asturias, and at the other end is a very quaint village called Caín in Castille and León. The route follows the River Cares through its immense gorge and is a favored trail by local hikers and visitors. The views of the powerful glacial river rushing through the valley and the impressive peaks above you are truly spell-binding. If you enjoy hiking and want to plan a trip to northern Spain then this route is well worth seeking out. Here’s some more information to help prepare you best to take on this exciting feat.

If You Want to Walk it All, Set Aside a Whole Day

Walking from one end to the other takes around 3-4 hours. If you only want to walk one way, then you can book lifts back to your start point, but this needs to be decided before setting off. Walking there and back again in one day is more than doable, you just need to leave enough time and pace yourself well.

Choose Which End to Start at

This is a long route, evidenced by the fact it crosses from one region of Spain to another. As such, it’s a good idea to do some research to decide whether you’d rather start in Poncebos or Caín. Starting in Poncebos means you’ll be walking uphill all the way, but if you walk back then you’ll have the gentle downhill route to look forward to.
