The Acropolis is a timeless symbol of Athens and the most popular tourist attraction this city has in store. The visit to the Greek capital is incomplete if you don’t check it out, and our brief guide will help you prepare accordingly for your Acropolis adventure.

Combined Ticket

The tickets for the Acropolis are best bought in advance, and the official Hellenic Heritage website offers two types of tickets. One of them will set you back by €20, but it only covers the Acropolis and the slopes, so it’s better to pay €10 extra for a combined ticket.

This ticket also includes admission to some of Athens’ most significant historic sites, including Ancient Agora, Hadrian’s Library, Kerameikos, Aristotle’s School [Lyceum], Olympieion, and Roman Agora, and you’ll have five days since the first entrance to explore them.

Early Bird

Acropolis opens its doors at 8 a.m., and the earlier you are there, the better. This is a great way to beat the crowds, avoid the heat, and enjoy this historic site to the fullest. Going there in the evening is also an option, but you won’t get to see too much if you’re there too close to the closing time.

Dress Accordingly

Acropolis doesn’t come with a specific dress code, but it’s highly recommended to dress modestly and avoid wearing revealing clothes. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and consider putting on sunscreen and wearing a hat during warmer seasons.

One of our favorite parts of travel is bringing home souvenirs to remind us of the places we’ve been. In an age where it’s possible to order almost anything online, there’s something quite special about purchasing authentic, handmade goods directly from the cultures that produce them. Greece, in particular, is an incredible destination where we’ve discovered plenty of high-quality souvenirs to help us keep our memories alive. If you’re planning a trip to Greece in the near future, read on to learn more about some of the best souvenirs to bring home with you.

Olives & Olive Oil

Of all of the unique and delicious products that Greece has to offer, its olives may be the thing most worth bringing home from your travels. A staple in the Mediterranean diet, both whole olives and olive oil from Greece are of especially high quality and bear a certain aromatic richness not found in olives from other parts of the world. We recommend purchasing from small, family-owned shops to ensure authenticity and support local artisans.

Olive Wood Crafts

What better to go with Greek olive oil than kitchenware made from olive wood? Greece is one of the only places in the world where wood from olive trees is used to make dishes, utensils, and other decorative carvings. The structure of the wood is quite durable and will last a lifetime with proper care, making olive wood products an excellent choice to bring back for yourself and as gifts for loved ones at home.

Greek Honey

Greece is home to some 1300 species of plants including herbs, flowers, and trees that serve as a varied all-you-can-eat buffet for local bees. As a result, Greek honey has a unique flavor and velvety texture that sets it apart as some of the best in the world. Especially delectable is honey made with thyme, which has a distinctive amber color and a floral, slightly spicy flavor.

Europe is somewhat of a contradictory place when it comes to the adventurous traveler. On one hand, it’s one of the most culturally significant and beautiful continents in the world. On the other hand, some of the biggest hotspots are also among the most expensive places in the world. Luckily, not all European countries will break the bank. So if you’re traveling on a budget, here are three countries in Europe that are on the cheaper side.

Portugal

For many years, Portugal has been lauded by travelers as one of the most economical choices. Compared to its neighbor, Spain, it’s much less expensive, and you’ll still get a wonderful experience. You’ll taste delicious cuisines, observe beautiful sceneries, and enjoy it all on a budget!

Hungary

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is one of the greatest deals you can find when it comes to getting bank for your buck. It’s not as expensive as Switzerland or Sweden, and yet it offers all kinds of amazing things to do, such as thermal baths, historic sites, and amazing nightlife too.

Greece

Finally, Greece is an another amazing budget friendly option—but with a slight caveat. Certain areas in Greece are definitely on a pricier side, but islands such as Rhodes or Crete are amazing options if you’re both trying to save money and have a great travel experience.

Start Your Quest in Knossos

Begin your mystical journey in Knossos, the legendary palace of King Minos. This ancient archaeological site is said to be the labyrinth of the Minotaur, a half-human, half-bull creature. As you explore the labyrinthine ruins, let your imagination run wild with tales of heroes and mythical beasts.

Seek Divine Guidance at Phaistos

Next, head to the Palace of Phaistos, another ancient Minoan site. Legend has it that the Disc of Phaistos, an enigmatic clay disc covered in undeciphered symbols, holds the key to lost knowledge. While it may remain a mystery, the site’s mystical aura is undeniable.

Traverse the Samaria Gorge

Venture into the Samaria Gorge, a place where nature’s grandeur meets ancient legends. Hike through this stunning gorge, believed by some to be the birthplace of the Greek god Zeus. Be prepared to encounter rugged terrain, towering cliffs, and the haunting echoes of mythic tales.

Bathe in the Waters of Elafonissi Beach

Elafonissi Beach is more than just a beach; it’s a place of mythical beauty. With its pink sands and crystal-clear waters, this natural wonder is said to be where the goddess Artemis bathed.
