It all started with a cycling trip through Europe. Dean, the founder of 1bike1world, knew that he wanted to leave his native Scotland and cycle around the world. What he did not expect was to come across a feisty little kitten on the Bosnia-Montenegro border. As soon as these two saw each other, it was love. Dean quickly got his newly found kitten the medical care she needed and named her Nala after the lioness from Disney’s The Lion King

From there, their Instagram and YouTube channels went viral. In 2018 Nala and Dean continued their cycling journey across Europe and documented it for the world to see. 2020 was a slower year for the duo, with them spending much of the pandemic in Hungary. The two were able to return to Dean’s native Scotland in the United Kingdom for a brief time, but are now spending the rest of the pandemic in Gmunden, Austria. Expect to see a lot of Nala and Dean Austrian content, while they wait for borders to reopen and to resume their journey.

Check out their travels, and all of the news around their next travel locale. It sounds like Nala and Dean may be heading to Asia!

Philanthropist and luxury travel blogger⁣ Elona Karafin wants you to think outside the box when it comes to international travel. According to Karafin, travel isn’t just about taking some time off. Travel, says Karafin, can be a fantastic self-development tool—because it extricates you from the values of your culture and shows you another society can live with entirely different values and still function and not hate themselves.

Traveling to some of the most stunning places across the globe, Karafin shares beautiful photos, where she can be seen sporting some stylish outfits. “Traveling alone takes resilience and an open mind,” she admits in one blog post. “It takes courage and stepping out of your comfort zone,” she notes, adding that traveling solo is something everyone should do at least once in their lives.

Where is the first place you will travel when it is safe to travel again?!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As you can imagine – whatever chemicals are responsible for the urge to fly again … are drowning everything else that is happening in my body 😅 As excited as I am, safety still remains the TOP priority. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ – @iata.training released an interactive map (google: IATA Travel Regulations map), on which you can see all the updated travel restrictions and border openings by country!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ – You can also search: “COUNTRY NAME travel covid” and click on the official embassy website to see what travel restrictions are in place based on your passport!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ – Consider traveling locally & PLEASE support local businesses, boutique hotels, mom & pop restaurants, gift shops, and more.⁣⁣ ⁣ – @thepointsguy is a great resource to be up to date on all things travel & flying⁣ as more information becomes available ✈ ⁣⁣ – If you can financially, consider using a travel agent for your next trip! I am very careful about who has access to me lately. It’s not out of arrogance, it’s out of the need to continue to protect my space and energy as I continue to do the work to elevate myself. This chapter requires me to be a little less accessible. (@hellonecole)⁣ ⁣ As an empath the biggest blessing & curse is putting other people first, more often than not. ⁣ ⁣ My friend @glographics once perfectly said: “I was always the helper. The fixer. The go-to girl for many. It padded my ego to know that I could be the person everyone could count on but I had no idea how detrimental it actually was.” ⁣ ⁣ Sometimes when people treated me in ways that I wouldn’t treat them – I’d tell myself, “Elona, you know you’re too caring and too nice and you can’t always expect that to the same degree in return.” ⁣ ⁣ People will show you love and respect in ways that they know best.⁣ ⁣ And while this is true, it’s ultimately up to YOU to determine whether those ways live up to your expectations. ⁣ ⁣ You are fully in control of setting expectations and boundaries with everyone around you. ⁣ ⁣ I started saying “no” more and more often. At first it felt like I was really hurting the people around me. But the reality is that now they respect me more. ⁣ ⁣ You grow the most when you’re out of comfort zone.⁣ ⁣ This year my journey of self-development has been an amusement park: books, dozens of hours of podcasts, youtube, blogs you name it. ⁣ ⁣ If you could learn anything from me, what would it be? 👇🏼 . . 📸: @jerometraveller

“The biggest excuse I hear all the time is, ‘I really want to share my experiences with someone else, that’s why I’d never travel alone,'” she writes. “You don’t always have to share your experiences with someone else—you’d be shocked to discover how different your surroundings are when you see them through your own lenses without anyone else’s two cents.”

With travel being a full-time gig, she creates content for various brands in the travel and lifestyle arenas. But she also leaves space for some charity work. This year, writes Karafin on her website, she’s focusing more on humanitarian efforts, leading various philanthropic initiatives to help children in underserved communities, and running a charity for underprivileged kids with cancer.

K6 is to London as yellow taxi cab is to NYC. “What in the world is K6?” 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 … That is the official name for the famous red telephone booth! ⁣ ⁣ “Red Telephone Booth” obviously didn’t seem as appropriate as K1 – K8 and beyond 😉 𝐊 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐤 – I know you’re wondering about that, too 🙃⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ With its design strongly influenced by the tomb (yes, tomb) of architect Sir John Soane, the iconic red booth is a staple of British culture 🇬🇧. Nearly every single person in the area has a cell phone nowadays, so the phone booth has lost a lot of its core purpose. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Some kiosks, like the one I’m standing in, are victims of severe vandalism and are marked with a pungent smell of urine (worth it for the picture am I right? 😅)⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Others, however, have been preserved and repurposed into shops, working pods, cafes, you name it. In fact, you can even adopt a phone booth! Whatever the case may be, prolonging the heritage is important or else, will London ever be the same?⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Did you know that the original booths were intended to be green and silver? Just imagine how different the dynamic of London’s landscape would be. Despite the decline in demand for standard phone service – I hope that these phone booths never completely become a thing of the past. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Have you been to London?⁣⁣⁣ ☎ ⁣⁣⁣ (photo inspiration from my favorite @sergeysuxov // shot by @ofleatherandlace // edited by me!)

California-based travel influencer Francesca Murray has a zest for life and a contagious smile, making her the ideal tour guide. Having launched her travel blog One Girl One World back in 2014, Murray has amassed an impressive following over the years, with some 50k fans on Instagram alone.

Fluent in French and conversational in Spanish, Murray is a proud Afro-Latina with Honduran Garifuna roots and has a solid audience across platforms—with the majority being millennial women from the United States.

“Life is a journey, and I’m excited to help you live yours out loud!” she writes on her website. “Be it finally embracing your natural curls, perfecting you skincare routine, or traveling solo for the first time—you’ll be sure to find the inspiration and resources you need right here.”

A passionate traveler, in an interview with Travel Coterie she admitted travel has enhanced who she already was deep inside. “It’s made me more confident and self-assured, allowed me to be more compassionate towards others and expanded my ability to look at the bigger picture in life,” said Murray.

“It’s also blessed me with the ability to speak multiple languages, which has changed my life for the better. I have some friends who don’t even speak English that I couldn’t have connected with if it weren’t for travel!”

Even amongst traveling couples, Marie Fe and Jake Snow stand out for their envy-inducing lifestyle. Having crossed paths by chance (with Fe hailing from Germany and Snow originally from South Australia), the two fell in love 4 years ago on an island in Thailand and have joined forces ever since—becoming a power couple on Instagram and beyond.

With their new-found love more important to them than security, comfort, or a career—the two took on a nomad lifestyle and created a brand that allows them to live life to the fullest. “We set about creating a life that would allow us to spend everyday together doing what we love while have a positive impact on the world,” they write on their website.

Over the years, the couple has traveled the world and seen the most beautiful places, met the happiest people and discovered new ways of living. Through their experiences, they’ve been able to collect the tools they needed to design a dream lifestyle.

“We’ve worked hard to make our dreams become a reality—make no mistake about that, but the tools we’ve collected over the years, the lessons we’ve learned, and the thought processes we’ve constructed that have helped us succeed, are very much acquirable,” they write.

Their goal now is to share their knowledge with others through their online blog. Blog posts include how to stay healthy on the road, how to make money online, and how to deal with the fear of failure. Recent blog posts also zoom in on traveling during Covid, such as a list dedicated to 5 Ways to be a Responsible Tourist During Covid-19.

“It wasn’t easy, we had many set-backs and we faced a lot of criticism/doubt from almost everybody around us,” write the inspiring couple. “But we can tell you now that our commitment to creating our life the way we wanted was the best thing we’ve ever done and will ever do.”

Their Instagram page will inspire you, if nothing else.

There’s nothing we love more than finding travel bloggers who document/blog their adventures in new, unique ways. And if those ways also include some artistic talent—we’re all the more delighted.

Such is travel writer and sketch artist Candace Rose Rardon. Describing herself as a visual storyteller, Rardon doesn’t only snap a photo of the places she visits—she sketches them out.

Traveling with a sketchbook and a set of watercolors, her impressions of the world around her are bright and vivid. Recent impressions include “The Natural Wonders of the World” series, where Rardon explores wonders such as the Grand Canyon, the harbor of Rio de Janeiro, and the Northern Lights.

A regular writer for the popular meditation app Calm, she has also worked with National Geographic and was featured in the New York Times. But according to her bio, it took her some time and effort to get to where she is today. “At the beginning, I pursued my passion for world cultures through writing,” she explains on her website. “I earned my Master’s in Travel Writing with distinction from London’s Kingston University, before writing for a variety of publications.”

Her work is a colorful celebration of the transformative power journeys might have. “Travel can change us, send us off in new directions,” writes Rardon, “and—sometimes when we least expect it—help us feel at home.”

While traveling internationally isn’t advised, nothing stops us from enjoying her illustrations in the meanwhile.

We all look forward to the weekends—some time off our busy schedules when we can relax and enjoy ourselves. But what if you could stop living for the weekends and actually start living NOW? Travel blogger Michelle Halpern wants to get this uplifting message across, inspiring her many followers online to live like it’s the weekend.

“My goal is to show you that if you want to make travel happen in your life, it’s truly possible,” writes Halpern on her website. “I’m here to guide you along the way, whether you’re struggling with money to pay for travel, feel held back by the schedule of a 9-to-5, or simply get stressed just at the thought of planning a trip in the first place, I’m here for you girl. YOU GOT THIS.”

Halpern puts her money where her mouth is, providing through her blog not only valuable and tangible information that you can use throughout your adventures, but also inspiring us to dream a little bigger and live a bit more fully. And with this past year being especially hard for tourism, Halpern also acknowledges the importance of treating yourself with kindness and copassion.

“I was supposed to be leaving this morning for a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur, but in true 2020 style it was cancelled yesterday less than 24 hours before our departure,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. “If this year has taught me anything, it’s to roll with the punches. There will be another time and place for this trip. I know so many of you have had to cancel things this year: trips, weddings, festival tickets, birthday parties, honeymoons. The list goes on. Know that you’re not alone in grieving the things you’ve had to cancel.”

Having visited more than 40 countries in 6 continents, her experiences and insight, both online and offline, are worth following.

I stumbled on an old journal earlier this week that had entries from back in 2012, right around the time I was deciding to close the chapter on my NYC life and move out to California. Reading through all of the nervous uncertainty with the knowing now of how everything has turned out was cathartic to say the least. Then as I flipped through the pages, there were a few more entries from my early days in LA circa 2013. Lists of things I wanted to accomplish and tick off the bucket list so to speak. There was a list of "places I need to see before I die": Thailand, Bali, Fiji, Morocco, Positano, Australia and Iceland…all but one of which I've since explored. There were things like "start a blog" – check. "Travel overseas by myself" – check. And then there was the line that really got me: "I secretly wish I was a photographer." Without seeing it coming, I burst into tears. Not because it made me sad, but because in that moment I felt more pride than I have in a long time. I felt so much love for that girl that was trying to find her place in the world in her late 20s and so much love for the 33 year old woman I've become, even if I don't give myself enough credit most of the time. I know you probably don't give yourself enough credit either. This year has seemed like a step back in progress for many of us, but I urge you to take a minute to reflect. Think about your 2012 self. Your 2014 self. Your 2017 self. What were your hopes and dreams then and where are you now? Progress is happening, I promise. Sometimes we just need a little perspective to see it clearly 💛

With most of us trying our best to turn the Covid-19 lemon into lemonade (we admit this phrase sounded better in our head), we look for travel inspiration close at home. Instagram influencer Joelle Friend dedicates her days to adventure. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest all her life, and currently based in Seattle, her growing audience on Instagram includes some 240k followers. All share her passion for the great outdoors.

“I get a lot of people asking me what my favorite country is,” wrote Friend in a recent Instagram post. “I have to say I love the Nordic countries so much. They are always so clean and there is such beautiful landscapes there. Even this simple path in the Finnish Lapland had me going ‘!!!!’, it was so quiet, and the air is known to be the cleanest in the world.”

But with international travel next to impossible, Friend finds the silver lining in more local travels and road trips. ”If you were to ask me what one of my favorite places to roam around in is, Mt. Rainier would be at the top of my list,” she explained on her website. “Why? Growing up in Washington, when the clouds finally clear, it shows itself so majestically. It towers over Western Washington and makes itself known. It has a powerful presence to it.”

Hitting the road also means traveling light. “When I go on road trips, I try to pack light and bring the necessities,” says Friend, “because sometimes it involves car camping and it makes my life a whole lot easier if I pack light.” Follow her day-to-day adventures on Instagram:

You might think that traveling with your significant other is stressful and a lot of work, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Just let Chanel and Stevo, the curators of the fantastic @howfarfromhome account on Instagram, be the ones to prove it!

This South African couple left behind their corporate jobs a few years ago and now work as creative directors that put together multimedia content for companies all around the world.

These two go around the world with their cameras in order to capture the best shots of all of their scenic destinations. Despite the stress of traveling with their significant other, these two definitely have a great time and check out an incredible number of fascinating places.

It’s always a surprise to find out where this globe-trotting couple has ended up when checking out the “stories” tab on their account. One of my favorite recent trips that they’ve taken was a journey to Poland, where they sampled all kinds of tasty dishes.

Be sure to give this inspiring couple a follow, and start booking a trip with your partner as soon as possible!

Travel agents suffered unimaginable losses during the pandemic and even so, they are often able to offer really low package deals ☺⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ – I filmed a fantastic #TalksWithElona episode with the Owner of Plane Talking PR – we talk about biosecurity in airports, the cleanliness of aircraft, and the future of travel. Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel / podcast to hear it first!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ – Safety, undoubtedly, is the top priority and as we continue to learn about safety measures for upcoming travel – it is imperative that we look after each other. Please wear a mask. Please wash your hands. And please don’t travel unless you feel 100% healthy.

According to Karafin, traveling solo teaches you how to be comfortable with yourself, appreciate silence, and most importantly—uncover the deep ends of your cognitive spectrum.

With an urge to explore new cultures—whether that involves learning new languages or trying out new cuisines—Murray is just the kind of influencer we seek in our feed. Noteworthy posts include a guide to Planning the Perfect Girl’s Trip to Barbados and How to Get Paid to Teach English Abroad.
