See the Buddha Dordenma

If you have any interest in Buddhism or just incredible statues, you should visit the Buddha Dordenma in Thimpu, a statute standing at a whopping 51 meters tall. A popular pilgrimage destination, there are tents and camps all around, and the people are very welcoming.

Meet a Takin

Have you ever heard of takin? This national animal of Bhutan can be found in the country’s forested valleys, or you can guarantee to see some by visiting the Motithang Taking Preserve in Thimpu. Once kept in a zoo, the once-freed takin preferred to roam around the streets of Thimpu, so now they’ve been (happily) returned to their enclosures.

Grotta dello Smeraldo is a beautiful cave in the area that is super unique. The cave is mostly dark, but the way the light reflects in the water makes it look like it’s glowing from underneath!

Mount Rose Ski Resort

If you’re visiting Reno during the winter and enjoy snow sports, a stop by the Mount Rose Ski Resort 20 miles away from downtown is a must. Obviously, it’s a great way to spend the day if you want to ski or snowboard, but it’s also great just for sledding or enjoying the beautiful scenery. Try to schedule your trip for a weekday if you want to avoid the crowds.

Nevada Museum of Art

The only accredited art museum in Nevada, the Nevada Museum of Art is a can’t-miss for anybody who loves art and history. Between the Permanent Collection, the Contemporary Collection, and the Center for Art + Environment, there’s something for everybody’s interests. Plus, there’s a spectacular city skyline view on offer.

River Walk

Want to go on a nice, relaxing stroll? The Truckee River Distract river walk is the perfect location for you. It offers bars, cafes, galleries, museums, and theaters, on top of just natural beauty and fresh air.

Snorkel

Snorkeling is an absolute must when visiting the Caribbean, with incredible marine life to be seen and appreciated. You can even visit the Underwater Museum, which boasts 500 sculptures created from materials that encourage coral reef development.

A Temazcal Ritual

A traditional Mayan ceremony that takes place in a tiny hut, doing a Temazcal ritual is a very special, spiritual experience. Led by a shaman, the ceremony involves darkness, sweating, chanting, herbs, and purification of the mind, body, and soul.

Visit the Tiger’s Nest Monastery

One of the most iconic sights in all of Bhutan is the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, also called Paro Taktsang, located at the side of a steep cliff wall. It’ll take two hours to hike up to the monastery, or you can hire a horse to take you up the hill. Either way, there is no doubt that it’s well worth seeing.

See the Buddha Dordenma

If you have any interest in Buddhism or just incredible statues, you should visit the Buddha Dordenma in Thimpu, a statute standing at a whopping 51 meters tall. A popular pilgrimage destination, there are tents and camps all around, and the people are very welcoming.

Meet a Takin

Have you ever heard of takin? This national animal of Bhutan can be found in the country’s forested valleys, or you can guarantee to see some by visiting the Motithang Taking Preserve in Thimpu. Once kept in a zoo, the once-freed takin preferred to roam around the streets of Thimpu, so now they’ve been (happily) returned to their enclosures.

Eat, Eat, Eat

The food in Madagascar may not be as well-known as the animals, but it’s no less exciting. We recommend zebu (local cow beef), romazava (meat stewed in tomato and greens), and ravitoto (mashed cassava leaves) to keep your tummy full for your days of adventure.

Visit a Shaman

Whatever ails you, whether it’s a broken heart or something more physical, visiting a local shaman (or healer) is an incredible experience that you won’t forget. Plus, it’s a good way to get to know the local plants traditionally used for medicinal purposes.
