If you’ve got plans to visit Sweden but are looking to explore places other than Stockholm, Sigtuna should definitely be on your list. This small town located about 45 kilometers north of Stockholm has a fascinating history that dates all the way back to 980 AD – right in the middle of the Viking Age. Whether you’re interested in historical sites, shopping, or just relaxing by the water, Sigtuna has something for you. Here are a few of the most notable things to do in Sweden’s former capital.

St. Olof’s Church

St. Olof’s is a 12th century medieval church dedicated to Olaf Tryggvasson of Norway, a Viking who played a significant role in the Christianization of Scandinavia. Today, the church is in ruins, but it still stands as a reminder of the town’s rich history.

Stora Gatan

Stora Gatan, which is Swedish for “large street,” is a pedestrian street full of shops selling everything from local crafts to designer clothing. While the majority of the street’s original buildings have been torn down over the centuries, its layout as a center of commerce hasn’t really changed.

Explore the waterfront

No visit to Sigtuna would be complete without a visit to the town’s picturesque waterfront along the shore of Lake Mälaren. Visitors can take a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy stunning views of the lake and the surrounding countryside. The waterfront is also home to plenty of cafes and restaurants perfect for relaxing and taking in the scenery.

Admit it: you are among the masses who play Wordle every single day.

For some, the word puzzle is how they begin their day—sitting on the toilet, trying to figure out a 5-letter word. For others, Wordle is how they cap off their day—one last brain activity before turning over and going to sleep. Regardless of where, how, or when, the online game has taken over the world.

Developed by software engineer, Josh Wardle, in October 2021, it was bought by The New York Times a couple months after becoming a global phenomenon.

Players have 6 chances to guess the 5-letter word, with a study showing that Swedes do it best. According to data obtained by Word Tips, Sweden solves Wordle the quickest, with an average of 3.72 tries. It is followed by Poland and Switzerland.

As for cities, the Australian capital of Canberra comes out top with an average of 3.58 guesses. Next is Jerusalem with 3.63, Malmö and Durban with 3.66, and Paris with 3.69.

The American state with the best Wordle average is North Dakota with 3.65, while an average of 3.51 ranks St. Paul, Minnesota as the United States Capital of Wordle.

Sweden is an absolutely gorgeous country in the northern hemisphere filled with its own rich culture and history, but boy does it get cold. While there are certainly benefits to visiting Sweden in winter, we prefer to plan our trips so that they fall in the middle of the summer. Not only is it warmer, but at some points you can expect to enjoy almost 20 hours of sunlight per day. Whether you prefer to stay in the city or time the countryside is what you’re after, there’s a place in Sweden perfect for you. Here are some of our favorite Swedish places to visit in the summer.

Stockholm

This one may seem obvious, but the Swedish capital is a must-visit any time of year. In the summer, tourists can enjoy attractions such as open-air markets and museums that aren’t open in the winter. It’s also a lot more comfortable to ferry out to the islands off the coast without those harsh winter winds.

Österlen

Head south to the region of Österlen in Sweden’s Scania province to take in the country’s quaint beaches and some of the greenest grass you’ll ever see. For entertainment, be sure to check out the area’s many markets and festivals, which are held year-round.

Dalarna

The Swedish county of Dalarna is one of the best locations to enjoy the country’s landscape. Hike the emerald forests, swim in the sapphire lakes, and check out the local villages and cities. We recommend Falun, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to one of the world’s largest copper mines.

Museum lovers will feel right at home in Stockholm because this city happens to be home to countless attractions of this kind. They cover everything from art and history to science and technology, but some of the museums in the Swedish capital happen to be pretty unique and specific—including these three.

Vasa Museum

Vasa Museum is one of Stockholm’s most popular landmarks, and you don’t have to be a naval history nerd to be crazy about it. This museum is best known for putting the historic ship Vasa on full display and giving it another chance to shine after it ended up sinking on its maiden voyage in the 17th century.

Museum of Spirits

If you’re looking for an attraction that’s a museum and bar wrapped into one, it doesn’t get much better than the Museum of Spirits. Its exhibits are dedicated to exploring the history and culture of alcohol in Sweden, but you can also visit a bar and an art gallery on its grounds.

ABBA The Museum

ABBA is one of the most iconic musical acts to come out of Sweden, so it’s not a surprise to see there’s an entire museum dedicated to their legacy in Stockholm. It features everything from interactive exhibits and memorabilia to the dance floor and studio.

From modern architecture to amazing museums, Malmö is home to countless attractions worth exploring and its parks are top of the line. They’re scattered all around this Swedish city and here are four that offer the most relaxing experience.

Pildammsparken

Pildammsparken translates to “Willow Pond Park” and that tells you everything you need to know about it. The ponds around it once served as the city’s water reservoir and willows were planted around them to strengthen their barriers.

Slottsparken

Slottsparken or Slottsträdgården is one of Malmö’s most specious and popular parks, and it’s home to some of the city’s most iconic attractions, including the historic watermill. It covers around 12,000 square meters and it features many beautiful gardens with different themes.

Folkets Park

Folkets Park is one of Malmö’s best places to visit with your entire family, but it’s also known for frequently hosting markets, concerts, and other open-air events.

Kungsparken

The title of the oldest public park in all of Malmö belongs to Kungsparken, located in the heart of the city, just next to the Malmö City Hall.  It’s one of the best places in the city to go to when you want to take a relaxing walk or go cycling.

How did your country do?
