Digital nomadism, which refers to people who use technology to work while traveling around, has been on the rise for several years now, but it’s now reaching a very interesting period in its development. After all, COVID-19 has changed everything, so why wouldn’t it have changed digital nomadism?

Now, companies are more open to remote work than ever before. After all, the Coronavirus lockdowns proved that it actually is possible to run your business with your entire workforce working from home. And with many employees unwilling to give up the pleasures of remote work, a large number of companies have created permanent work from home policies. In theory, this is great for digital nomads, who now have more job opportunities than ever.

But another thing that COVID has changed in a less favorable way? Travel. Getting around from country to country is harder than we’ve ever seen it in our lifetimes, with vaccine statuses and green passports and testing and quarantines providing barrier after barrier. So while getting a remote job might be easier, figuring out where to take it is much more complicated.

All things considered, one thing’s for sure: people who are committed to the digital nomad lifestyle will find a way to take advantage of this new wave in remote work, one way or another.

While it’s too soon to say that we’ve overcome Coronavirus—the world is still in many ways under its thumb—we are also beginning to see a return back to normal now that the vaccine has been out for months. As a result, many countries are opening their borders and travel is becoming an option in a way that it has not been in a long time.

Naturally, travel lovers who have been cooped up in their home countries for long months on end are eager to get back to their love of seeing the world. But is it too soon? Is traveling right now safe? Is it worth it?

Well, here are a few things to consider.

Take it While it’s Hot

On the one hand, if you are vaccinated, you’ll have many more options for travel, with a lot of countries allowing in vaccinated travelers without quarantine requirements. And with time, travel is only becoming less flexible and more crowded, which means the window to take advantage of empty Corona planes is quickly closing.

It’s Still Risky

On the other hand, there’s no way to guarantee that you’ll be 100% safe; there are still too many unknowns when it comes to the vaccine. The last thing you want is being stuck abroad when a new Covid variant pops up and changes everything.

Ultimately, like everything, it’s a matter of making your own judgment call.

We know you’re probably feeling all kinds of stir-crazy having been bottled up in your home for the last year and a half due to the coronavirus lockdowns. We feel you. We’ve all been in this thing together. And as individuals who have experienced the same thing as you, we’re here to give you a piece of advice that we’re going to be taking ourselves: Do not be swayed into traveling this summer now that things are finally starting to open up. You should wait till the fall instead, and here’s why.

The Pandemic is Still Here

Even though things are opening up, COVID-19 is still out and about. As much as we’d like to believe that it’s gone for good, this is certainly not the case, so why risk it and go on a major trip while there’s still a lot of unknown factors at play? Best to give it some more time.

It’s Gonna Be Packed

This brings us to our next point. Even if the pandemic is sort of ebbing away, that doesn’t exactly mean we should be refraining from social distancing. And if EVERYONE decides to travel this summer, something tells us that social distancing might be a little bit hard. So do yourself a favor and wait it out a bit longer. It’ll be worth it to travel in October or November because not only will it be less packed, it’ll be cheaper too!

With vaccines rolling out worldwide, and COVID cases coming down albeit slightly, travel culture is rearing its excited head ready to pounce. Backpackers are researching their next destination. Travel bloggers are aching to see new sights. Mountaineers are getting ready to climb that next mountain. But while we think it’s amazing, and while we’re excited as well, here’s why we think you should be careful.

Avoid Overcorrection

Just because people are getting vaccinated doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. The coronavirus is still a very real thing and we need to take it seriously all the same. It would be a shame for everyone to travel at the same time right when the restrictions lift, only to create some serious crowding issues and zero social distancing.

Maintain Good Practices

If there’s one good thing that the pandemic taught us, it was how to be cleaner individuals. Washing our hands every chance we could, putting hand sanitizer when possible, social distancing, you name it. These are all practices that can still help us avoid getting sick, not just from COVID-19 but from all kinds of illnesses.

Let’s Just Chill For a Bit

We need to keep a level head about all of this. Let’s be mature and wait for the right time to take a vacation. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should. Not yet, at least. After all, was your quarantine really that bad?

Even though we’re still dealing with COVID-19, the rollouts of various vaccines have given the world reason for some optimism. This is especially true when it comes to the travel industry. Due to the coronavirus, it was increasingly hard for backpackers to travel to their favorite destinations. And even if they were able to do so, most hotspots and tourist attractions weren’t the same. But once things start to open up again, will everything just go back to normal? Not necessarily.

Social Distancing

Social distancing has become such a common practice since COVID-19 hit that it may just stick around for longer than we think. Even if the virus calms down, we may see a world in which people are afraid to touch each other. So if you meet someone abroad, don’t be surprised if they don’t exactly want to shake hands with you. If you’re at a concert, mosh pits might become obsolete.

Masks

Will people continue to wear masks long after the coronavirus has settled down? Moreover, will airlines still require their passengers to wear masks? How about establishments such as restaurants and amusement parks? These are all things that may take a toll on your experience when you travel. It’s tough to say how things will turn out, but our guess is that masks will be here to stay for a while.

Travel is a stressful thing in the best of times. There is so much to plan and arrange and so many moving pieces that can go wrong and potentially ruin your trip and cost you a lot of money. Now add a global pandemic to the equation and things go from stressful to downright anxiety-inducing.

Traveling during the Coronavirus pandemic inevitably involves a large degree of uncertainty. You never know when a changed law or a new virus mutation will make you have to change your plans. So how can you deal with this travel uncertainty?

Actually, learning to let go and accept that you can’t control what happens during your trip won’t just help you now; it’ll be useful for all future travel and even just general life. Because you can’t change external circumstances like having a hotel reservation canceled on you or being stuck in a foreign country not sure when you can go home. But you can control how you react to it.

So use this time to practice accepting what is as it comes and focusing on what you can do, like staying up to date, practicing social distancing, and keeping a positive attitude. It’ll serve you well.

One of the many ways in which the Coronavirus disturbed our lives when it came around last year was by stopping us from being able to travel, as the risk of flying to a different place and exposing ourselves to more people (and more people to you) became too dangerous. But we’re now coming to a turning point in the pandemic as vaccines are being rolled out internationally. Naturally, people are beginning to wonder when they’ll be able to travel again. So what can you expect to happen now?

Unfortunately, we only know that the vaccines reduce the risk of getting ill from COVID-19; we don’t know if actually reduces the risk of spreading it between people. This means that travel won’t be able to go completely back to normal just yet. Even as more countries open up their borders (some only for people who have already received the vaccine), you can still expect to wear masks, take COVID-19 tests, and research the Coronavirus situation wherever you’re travelling to.

That being said, if you want to increase your chances of being allowed into foreign countries, you’ll definitely need to get the vaccine and the documentation that proves you’ve had it, which might be necessary to be allowed past passport control.

We’re in the middle of the pandemic that’s changing everything we know about life. Among the things it has affected is the way we spend holidays, and winter holidays are no different. Here are some ways in which skiing will be different this winter.

Expect Fewer People

Many still don’t want to travel—just to be safe—while others do and can, but there will generally be fewer people in your favorite ski resorts than what you’re used to. Reservations may be needed, too, so ask upfront if you don’t want to risk being declined entrance.

Priority

People with season pass may have priority at certain ski resorts over guests interested in buying daily tickets. Since the number of guests is limited, it’s natural for them to prioritize returning customers, but this can typically be solved if you book your place in advance.

New Lift Rules

Meeting new ski buddies will be more difficult this year, as you won’t be able to ride the lifts with people you didn’t come with. It is what it is, and we can only hope next year will be better!

COVID-19 completely changed the way we approach travel, and some of the money hacks we used to rely on before are no longer that effective. If you’re trying to travel on a budget right now, think twice before using these money-saving hacks.

Hostel Stays

Staying at the hostel is the oldest money-saving trick in the book, but they’re usually more crowded than any other type of accommodation. If you’re looking for a safer alternative, consider booking a private apartment or at least a private room.

Free Tours

Free walking tours are a great way to explore a new place and meet fellow travelers, but they can be too overcrowded. The number of participants is usually limited these days, and you have to wear a mask and social distance, but exploring the city alone or joining a smaller group is also an option.

Transportation Options

The way you approach transportation shouldn’t be dictated by the price, but by safety. If ride-sharing, public transportation, or buying cheap plane tickets doesn’t feel like the right option right now, pitch in a bit more money for safer alternatives.

CNN reports that cities around the world are getting fewer tourists this year due to the COVID-19 crisis. There are a few reasons that are making travelers stay away from the cities.

In some places, the strict policies are making it impossible to enjoy the vacation. When you can’t visit museums, restaurants, or reach public transport as you normally would—going on a trip is not really worth it. Other places don’t have restrictions, but that means they still get some travelers, and numerous people don’t want to risk going in the crowds, especially in a foreign country.

What can you do in the meantime? Until city breaks are safe and comfortable again, you can explore the places around your home and take more trips to nature. There are so many incredible things to see that we never had time for and we can use this crazy time to try and gain a new perspective. All your favorite destinations will be waiting for you once the pandemic is over!

There are so many incredible things to see that we never had time for and we can use this crazy time to try and gain a new perspective. All your favorite destinations will be waiting for you once the pandemic is over!
